Ian Fowler should be memorialized in some way. Naming the plaza in front of the events centre for him would be a grand idea.

We should make an online petition. Anyone know how to do one of those?

I see that the city will be announcing a competition for a $200K art installation for the plaza in front of the events centre this November. The plan is to have this piece d'art installed for the grand opening in 2018.

Do you think the old telegraph building will go to? those buildings became an eyesore now that the centre is going up? I am new to this forum, but I was born on Enterprise ST and went to Prince Edward and Hillcrest school.

Is there a post I can't see for some reason. The plans for the Even centre have a strip of Commercial buildings with potentially offices, or housing above that seems to match up with the downtown so I don't think there are any plans to demolish, and rebuild any buildings within downtown Moncton.

I believe you're confused by Good2go's response to PEI highway guy's question. He was only joking..........

Welcome to the forums. If the "Telegraph Building" is that red brick building next to the old Highfield Square Sobey's, then it's days are numbered. It, like the Sobey's is going to be demolished. I'm not sure what is going to happen to this property, but it belongs to Crombie REIT now, and I have a sneaking suspicion that redevelopment will be in the offing, along with a forklift upgrade to 1222 Main Street. This is just a hunch, and I have no timeline, but I have my suspicions............

Ian fowler is a good idea, but I would rather see someone who has given their time to volunteer in the community, please for the love of god, not another wealthy politician family like the irvings unless they gave a huge chunk of cash.

With all due respect to Ian Fowler's legacy, I would prefer to see the Event Centre's name bought by a company's naming rights for a specific lease term. That generates income for the facility.

Ian Fowler's legacy could be displayed inside the Event's Centre via a wall memoriam, or even better, name the outside plaza multi purpose area with his name.

I believe that is what most people are saying now would be best to do. The Ian Fowler Plaza as the main outside focal point of the new centre would be a fantastic way to honor his legacy and how he was the Events Engine for Moncton for so long.

Good to see the Event Center coming along so quickly!

Anyone else think that those cement seats already look more comfortable than the current seats at the Coliseum?

The big red crane that has temporarily held a spot in Moncton’s skyline is set to leave the events centre grounds this month as the bleachers and roof trusses have all been installed.

Oh well, there'll be new cranes next year:

- Junction Urban Village
- FiveFive Queen
- Harper Building

And the tower crane for Horizon Place will still be around.

this is posted on the City of Moncton's website
 A Request for Proposal (RFP) for Anciliary land – Parcel B, will be sent to market
before the end of the year.

Would this be the land nearest the Subway/ the tracks? And what/where is Parcel A?

Parcel B is the land near the subway and parcel A is the land between the arena and 1234 and 1235 main

This site plan shows the relative positions of parcel "A" and parcel "B".

Parcel B is the larger and more important of the two development opportunities.

- the city wants a residential tower(s) situated on a commercial/retail podium.
- construction won't happen until 2018 because the land is required by Bird Construction for their equipment for the events centre project.

I imagine the city will not settle for a substandard proposal. They realize that whatever is built here has to complement the events centre, and contribute to this area being the heart of the downtown entertainment district. I personally expect two towers probably in the 8-12 storey range. The podium will likely contain pubs and restaurants on the ground floor, possibly with a second level of commercial space.

due to the odd size of parcel B I always envisioned a parking garage on Parcel B, I hope someone has better options than I.
