The costs of shipping for one location would inflate their introductory Value Picks menu and further inflate the cost of their main menu, which is already pretty expensive as it stands. It's hard to get a foothold in the market when things aren't as they should be.

It's not as though a 1.39 on the mainland is equal to a 1.59 here so it's par, it isn't. $1.39 there is still a 1.39 here, which makes it worse when we get different menus for places like East Side Mario's.
The location will probably be a combo KFC / Taco Bell. KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are under the same group. Not sure how much more KFC is in St. John's vs Toronto because of shipping.

The rumor two-ish years ago was that ATK Group (or someone named like that) that had bought up the KFC rights here had plans to bring KFC/Taco Bell combos here when they returned KFC to St. John's.

That never happened.

I'm honestly not holding my breath on this.

That's not the only thing going into the Avalon Mall food court, according to the Overcast: https://theovercast.ca/mall-menu-mak...e-avalon-mall/

At 750 seats, the food court in the Avalon Mall is the largest food court in the province. It was announced this week that the city approved three new franchises for the province’s biggest dinatorium:

Mr. Souvlaki

As the name implies, Mr. Souvlaki’s menu is “full of new and classic family style Greek favourites,” like chicken or pork souvlaki plates, and Falafel Plates (all of which are served on rice with sides of Greek potatoes and Greek salad). Other dishes include pita sandwhiches, spinach pies, and a Gyros plate, “A blend of beef and lamb, slowly roasted on a vertical spit and then sliced into thin shavings, served with rice, Greek potatoes and a Greek salad.”

Mucho Burrito

As the name implies, they call themselves a “Mexican Fresh Grill,” and for a chain, their corporate copy claims to run against the quick-over-quality nature of chains. Direct website quote, “The best way to make food is Mucho good and Mucho fresh is with real food. Food free of artificial preservatives, fake flavours, and artificial fat substitutes. The Mayans never used MSG so why should we?”

Their menu breaks down into 8 broad categories: Burritos & Bowls / Quesadillas / Tacos / Taqueria Salad (salads in edible taco bowls) / Kid’s Menu / Chips and youir chocie of dip (guac, salsa, Queso cheese, etc) / Deserts / Refreshments (including Jarritos, “a little taste of Mexico in your mouth! Available in an assortment of unique flavours.”)

Pannizza

Pannizza is a custom-order pizza and pannini joint, where you pick your toppings sandwich-shop style from a deli counter (or choose from some signature options). Its creators took a road trip around North America, and “ate a lot of sad pizza, cold panninis, terrible salads [and]started taking notes.”

The notes they took asked questions like “What makes you eat that last slice of pizza? What’s the wow factor in a pannini?” Their answer to perfecting panninis came down to their shared postulation that “grilled paninis are underwhelming.” To fix that, Pannizza bakes their pannini bread fresh to order, in some kind of magical process that can do so in 2 minutes and 15 seconds.

A perfect example of this scenario, I noticed on TV the other night. KELSEY'S restaurant is running a Burger promotion this month, with a special tied to Corona Beer.
At the end of the commercial, there is a disclaimer that runs along the bottom of the screen that says something to the effect : NOT AVAILABLE IN NEWFOUNDLAND !
I'm sorry, but this is a fucking joke ! If you cannot offer a promotion, Franchise wide, then don't bring your lousy franchise to this province.

Good luck to these 3 places.
What the hell is Pannizza thinking ? They are literally just around the corner, and doing nothing. So lets open another location, with even higher costs ! Brilliant !

Mr. Souvlaki : other Greek places, have tried , and failed in the mall. Don't see this being any different

Mucho Burrito may do fine to start, but once the Mexican craze dies off, ( which it definitely will ), they may be in trouble

Newfoundlanders can't see past KFC and Mary Brown's and Tim Horton's. Everything else, will struggle in the mall.

This very very well may be true, but kudos to these business owners for giving it a shot, we need more of this in NL. There's no better way to change people's perspective than more exposure to something.

Couldn't agree more... and people will wonder why Kelsey's is closed in a few years.

According to Pannizza's St. John's Facebook page, they opened a location in the Village Mall yesterday! "Now open Pannizza Village Mall 😋😁 Don't forget we also have a location at 80 Kenmount Road" Click here to visit the post on Facebook.

Good luck to 'em ! The Village is so desperately slow, they'll never do the volume needed in order to be profitable.

Also, by the looks of it, they are right next to SUBWAY . I smell lots of trouble for Pannizza

Just noticed that Mohamed Ali Restaurant is setup on Water Street next to Celtic Hearth. A good move imo.

It's run by the owner's brother-in-law. Both families were relocated as refugees, one to Newfoundland, and the other to Philadelphia. The brother-in-law in Philadelphia decided to move his family to Newfoundland, saying, "the USA is tough, it’s not like here, here is very easy going, the people are kind". Sounds like a win for NL (disclosure: I'm also a Philadelphia native relocated to Newfoundland, and I can attest that Philly's not like town).

I heard there is a surprise "Roll Up The Rim" coming back for a short period at Tim Horton's for Canada's 150. Anyone one else hear this?

Yeah it's likely a Moxies, similar to other Sandman hotels, or a Shark Club (basically same thing, just waitresses wear less and the beer is a bit cheaper). I don't think either will do amazing but seeing as it's in the hotel, should be fine.

Also, from their website https://www.sandmanhotels.com/ :

In addition to great accommodations, you can enjoy a variety of dining options during your travels. Choose from a casual yet upscale dining experience at CHOP Steakhouse & Bar or a stylish, relaxed environment at Moxie’s Grill & Bar. Alternatively, you can choose the convenience of Denny’s Restaurants, Shark Club Sport Bar | Grill, Rockford Wok Bar Grill, or get together with friends at one of our popular lounges.

The city approved a Moxie's late last year for that site.
