Sandy used to just build office stuff in their 'downtown'. Then they added in residential. Then a theatre. They're close ...but they still haven't added in the one essential, and that's mixed-use buildings. There's no retail, no one there after 5pm, and no where to really walk in general - you're taking your car and going to big box stores or South Towne.

I just heard on the radio that Amazon plans to build a $200 million dollar facility somewhere in the southwest quadrant of SL county.

This was already discussed in the SLC thread. The fulfillment center is going in the NW Quadrant of Salt Lake City.

Doesn't sound like the Wasatch Front population boom is going to let up any time soon. Seems like Salt Lake City and CSA is on an amazing roll again.

Does anyone know what is going in where the old Staples and Toys R Us used to be in West Valley? I wasn't able to snap any pictures but the Staples buildings is almost completely demo'd and the old Toys R Us is fenced off.. It was only a couple weeks ago that they had closed, I'm surprised they moved so quickly on demo... If anyone knows I'd appreciate it!

West Valley City is going to be building a new Public Safety Building, and also an office building. Details in a few weeks.

The 378 units at Artesian Springs (295 of which are affordable, 83 are market rate) feature open floor plans, 9-foot ceilings, granite countertops, private balconies, large walk-in closets and high speed Internet. Every apartment meets or exceeds the sustainable and energy efficient criteria established by Enterprise Green Communities, and each is certified as Energy Star rated.

All units feature 95.5 percent efficient furnace systems resulting in significantly lower utility bills for tenants and a huge reduction in natural gas throughout the development. All apartments feature low-flow plumbing fixtures (faucets & toilets), which reduce the overall water usage by 10-15 gallons per person per day. This results in an overall reduction in water usage for the development by more than 1,600,000 gallons per year. By maximizing the Xeriscape landscaping through the use of drip irrigation, stone and mulch ground cover, and native species/ water conserving shrubs & trees, it is estimated that Artesian Springs will save over 366,000 gallons of irrigation water per year.

Community amenities at the complex include: neighborhood room with kitchen and lounge, fitness center, business facility, basketball court, playground and tot-Lot, dog run, pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen with BBQ grills and fire pit. Residents enjoy a covered parking garage with secured controlled access.

Prior to construction, the five-parcel lot was faced with a $1.1M Federal Recovery Lien filed by the EPA due to a former dry cleaning company, which operated on the property for over 47 years. Parley’s Partners conducted an emergency clean up of the site to secure financing and permits.

Two phases of the three-phase project were built by Kier Construction and the third phase was built by RimRock Construction. During phases one and two, over 1,627,440 lbs of construction waste (cardboard, plastic, wood) were diverted from the landfill and sent to local recycling facilities for reprocessing. Overall, the Artesian Springs project was able to recycle over 86 percent of construction waste.

With all the housing along Main Street in Murray, I would love to see some more retail at the base of newer buildings and a grocery store. Let's get some open space put in and get a couple buildings in the 7-8 floor range. It's not that I want more height, it's the fact I want to see more variation in the height of the buildings.

StevenF you are right, there's a huge void in that area of grocery.. closest would be the Smiths on 900 e or 5300 s or the chinatown market on 3400 s.

Between Brickgate/Lionsgate, Birkhill phase 1 and 2, townhomes and these new apartments there are an easy 2,000 units in this area. With more housing added later and I would assume there will be more office showing up in the area, a grocery store would be welcomed. A small Harmons or a Trader Joes would be what I think would best serve Main Street Murray.

To build off of this... Sandy is implementing "recommended design requirements" for new developments in the Cairns district, and part of those requirements include a minimum amount of ground-floor commercial space in each new building.
