Lol I used to deliver for Hotline. So maybe I just got sick of it.

Santa Lucia is an obvious choice for good pie. I also liked the flavour of Vern's sauce, and all the meat. Only tried it a couple times. Too bad the shop at London and Munroe went under. The staff in there was terrible, which only leads one to believe the management was not very good.

That actually explains a lot BJ.
I worked a few restaurant and Hospitality trade jobs in my early teens.
I ate the food, hung around a few kitchens and eventually moved on.

After a while I didn't even want to see or/smell the food associated with the places..be it good or bad.

The actual things I saw happen in kitchens, some very highly rated would make most peoples stomach curl, as probably others who worked in the industry are aware of.

Taste for what's good or bad is very subjective and purely a personal choice.
I had some "really good pizza", in the Mediterranean, imo, but maybe the Italians just do it better..

I would hope the best pizza comes from it's motherland!

Hotline was actually really clean and the cooks I worked around did a good job. Not to say there aren't some bad apples out there. But that can be said for virtually every restaurant.

I knew the owners of Sabino's.

Sadly they went out of business after the Yellow Pages typo'ed their phone number on their full page ad.

If in St. Vital / St. Boniface area, you must try Van Goes thin crust pizza, their chicken is awesome too. crust is very Gondala like, original owner was founder of Gondala. Current owners have added lots of unique toppings, all fresh. not cheap, but pay more and get better quality.

They deliver citywide if order through skipthedishes

In the most overrated category I'd put Diana's Gourmet Pizza. Don't get me wrong, it isn't a bad pizza, but for all the accolades and higher prices (by pizza standards) I sure would have a hard time telling it apart from the local neighbourhood pizza joints.

The only pizza i'll eat is from the Little Cesar's at Plessis and Regent. I know everyone else says it tastes like cardboard, but its the only one i like.

I'd agree with some previously mentioned: Santa Lucia, Paradise are favorites.

I'd also give top marks to Sorrentos (the original Ellice location only).

Also, DJs makes a pretty unique pie. It's not for everyone, but it's a Winnipeg thing for sure.

Yeah. Diana's is garbage. However..the pizza that won the awards is not the same pizza they serve. Also Coleseo's used to have awesome pizza. And there used to be a place called Mr. B's pizza on Day street and that was among the best joints in town. It was cracker thin pizza crust but plentyfull toppings. The beef and bacon pizza was extrordinary.

The Verns on McPhillips is still open as far as I know and doing city wide delivery.

Mr. B's is over on Plessis now and there's a new owner. That used to be in my Top 2 for pizza in the city, but apparently the food has gone downhill with the new owner and I'm a little skeptical to go back.

Pasquale's on Marion has some pretty good pie. Had some for a company xmas/year end meeting and everyone enjoyed it!

I remember it being very pricy, but they have one damn fine patio.

For Pizza chains, Tony's Pizza on Bond in Trashcona was the best. Brian used to put a pound of cheese on and always used Montreal Meats. Mouth's watering now. http://www.tonysmasterofpizza.com/en/

Gondola on Day had a super thin crust pizza.

Dal's in Regent Park had a great pie called the Manager's Special. Actually had some heft to it when you picked it up, lots of meat and sauce.

Best ever tasted, Pompei in Amsterdam a block from Central Station.

Ill second for Tony's (Pembina location).

Gondola is great too (thin crust is easy to eat and goes fast - also great cheese toast).

Santa Lucia is also good and has the best cheese toast.

But right now I'm really digging Papa Johns!

Best Restaurant/Bar "Patio"

I'll go with Saffrons on Corydon Ave.
and Bar Italia.

Just for the amount of people/activity going on during the patio season in front of these locations. Their are others no doubt but these are 2 of the better locations

A few interesting tidbits in here about the expansion of chain restaurants in Winnipeg. Three Milestones, three to five Swiss Chalets and three to five Fionn MacCool's in the next 5 years:

ate at Qdoba, corner of Ellice & Empress today, it was pretty damn good. had a 10 minute line up, but that will die down over time. better than the one I had in Grand Forks a few weeks back, but still prefer Cassito Burrito.
