The recent spark from Hilton inspired me to think up something 10x better than what they're deciding to put on that optimal plot of land' I figured I should share it. In addition to a new design, I also thought the hill could be used as a feature rather than be destroyed. Why not build the lower floors into it, making trails merge into it on their roof, and create an environment that benefits the area? Anyways, this in no way is intended to be massively realistic, just a simple elevation.

Rezone to Commercial Central Office (CCO) Zone for Proposed Hotel

Applicant: Manga Hotels
Council Directive CD #R2013-02-25/6
Mr. Vahé Kouyoumdjian was welcomed to the meeting and addressed the Committee. He indicated that
as a result of public feedback several enhancements were made to the design of the hotel including:
a. The building now hugs the street
b. The building no longer impedes sight lines
c. There are no windows immediately overlooking residential properties
d. There will be a substantial landscape buffer behind the properties on the south side of Pleasant Street
e. Provision has been made to have interior garbage dumpsters.
f. The building now has a more aesthetically pleasing façade.

To me it sounds like he is describing the second design which none of us found aesthetically pleasing. I hope I'm wrong and he is referring to a newer 3rd design. Interestingly enough the Magna website still shows the original design on their New Developments page. Given the 2 options we know of I would rather they went with this one.

Point c) still states that there will no windows overlooking residential properties. So I assume the entire west side of the building will still be a solid blank wall?

Shit, this is actually beautiful!

What are the chances you're an architect?

Wow, that is very impressive!

About point c), I hope it's not going to be a blank brick wall. Hopefully they'll put some glass up to give the appearance of windows at least. The former would be rather quite unattractive. This leads me to point f) regarding the improvement in aesthetics of the design - this at least gives me some hope it'll be more than just a blank wall.

I wonder if its still gonna look like the second option.
We know they already rejected the first one.

I won't be going. It's too risky that the new design is what we could end up with. I hope this proposal is not approved.

I may have said this before, but I'll say it again now.

I don't know if it's just because of the quality of the render but I find aspects of the ground level of the second proposal much better. I don't know the best way to explain it but it looks more inviting or something. The entrance is defined, there are lots of windows and it looks more like a retail space than a hotel. I also like that it's right on the road. The proposal is a bit of a mess though.

The original proposal is much more stark looking. It's difficult to tell where the entrance is and it looks like it could be plopped down anywhere, like on Stavanger Drive.

I guess it's kind of an atmosphere thing.

According to council meeting tonight there was a 3rd design submitted, whew. We could be saved.

The updated design was way nicer at street level, but everything above it was a disaster. At least that's something to start with.

Will we get to see this third design? Remember what happened to JAG? The original design was nothing like what was eventually built.

I'd say we'll see the third design at some point. It was only recently submitted to council, so it'll slip into our hands soon, hopefully.

The guy with the company responded to emails before. Maybe we can get a render?

Look what I just came across. I don't remember seeing these before. Could this be the current design revision.

Good improvements. It's still a bit of a weird design, but much better than what was proposed the second time around.

I just hope that blank wall is gone.

I am in tears.

It's not great, but it won't literally ruin the city like the previous design.

It looks like the blank wall might still be there based on the angles they're showing.

I still don't understand how you can have a hotel with a entire side being a blank wall. Won't there be hotel rooms on that side of the building? I feel like it's mandatory to have a window in a hotel room..

Or are they planning to have the hallway in the back and rooms on only the front side? Seems kinda silly to essentially cut the number of rooms in half because of some bitchy neighbours

Not sure if it's the angle of the render, but the shape of the building gives it the appearance that it's taller than 35m. I agree, this design is the best so far.
