Good to see Columbus is one of the two cities in the northeastern quadrant that is at the highest level. What is the Massachusetts city that is also at the highest level?

Most of the major port of entry drop offs for immigrants have become too expensive, good to see that they are filtering into secondary and Tertiary markets

I would think that if it was existing population and not growth rate. OSU is not growing that fast. It must be more than that I think. Maybe more Somali immigrants?

I guess we have the largest Nepali-Bhutanese population in the US? I think we are second in Somalis after Minneapolis?

Here are the largest ethnic, racial, ancestral or tribal groups in 2018 with a population of 20,000 & over in each State according to the US Census American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year sample. It's not comprehensive for all states because it's of a one year sample but may give us an idea of what each state's largest or most common groups are.

You will notice that there are quite a few states that aren't as diverse as others especially with the size of their ethnic or racial minorities or where they rank overall with 20,000 as the cut off. Of course a population of 20,000 in a state that's over 10 million barely registers especially if they're spread out but it's a number I chose to stop at.

Also these are for single response only -- meaning those that are not mixed with any other ethnic group or ancestry. Hispanics or Latinos can be of any race.

That data looks very interesting. The trends I’m recognizing are the following:

-Many of the Southern cities are gaining the African Americans a lot of the huge Northern and Western cities used to have.

-The Hispanic population is growing rapidly in the usually suspects in the Sunbelt ( Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, etc) as well as in other parts of the nation like fast growing Riverside, CA, NYC, LA, etc

-Asians were gained at almost very metro, especially the top ones of NYC, LA, Bay Area, etc and modest gains in the Sunbelt which will only increase.

-The top major metros lost much of their White population to the much of the Sunbelt, specifically many of the mid size ones like Austin, Nashville, Tampa, Charlotte, and Denver ( if it counts as Sunbelt).

- Much of the East Coast Hispanic populations don’t even have Mexicans as a major component. I always found that interesting since Mexico is relatively much closer still than many of the others. But I suppose Caribbean Latinos like Cubans, Puerto Ricans, and Dominicans are close enough as well and have made their mark on NYC, Miami, DC, Boston, etc. El Salvador, Peru, and a few others are interesting and it makes sense that Mexicans make up a good percentage of Latinos in California and Texas for the reasons I established earlier.

Although the cut off date is for 2018 I think the Puerto Rican population in the Orlando metro area is under counted since the hurricanes of 2017.

Very interesting that the African-American, Afro-American, or Black American and now sometimes referred to as the American Descendants of Slavery (ADOS) demographic is the largest single ethnic block in a lot of major American metros. If I recall, there was a recent push to have Black Americans categorized as their own unique ethnic group in the upcoming census separate from blacks native to the African continent or the Caribbean. I think it also shows how uniquely American of a demographic Afro-Americans are and ubiquitous to American society the group is (very similar to Americans of German and Irish descent).

^^^ There's also a few Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and even Filipino declines in other cities, mainly outside the South. Are many Asians just moving from established communities to other area? It's appears so, but I'm sure there are other factors involved.

Korean immigration has declined a lot overall as the nation has become more prosperous. San Diego showed a modest increase for Koreans, which could include transplants from LA.

I talked to a friend who lives in Korea and he told me he thought much of Central LA was a dump compared to Korea.

man, even african immigrants are now starting to black-flight out of chicago.

that stat does not bode well for the city's future.

Yeah, it’s a concerning trend that’s only accelerating. African immigrants are culturally distinct from black Americans, but for a city with as much black history as Chicago, it’s disappointing to see our black community declining so rapidly. I wouldn’t think our legacy of racism would have any impact on immigrants from Africa moving here, but it seems like it might.
