I sure hope they're gonna clean and polish that steel because it just looks awful. Reminds me of the giant banal commnications towers you'd see in the old Soviet Union. Does any one know if they have plans to maintain the mast so that it looks "shiny"?

The more pieces go up, the more my eyes hurt. This antenna will be a constant reminder of how money was more important than beauty / symbolism.

Btw, a fun fact:
Total views 1WTC (SSP, SSC, WNY):
SSP: 7,431,265
SSC: 8,647,288
WNY: 3,752,904
------------
Total: 19,831,457

Soon, it will be 20 Mill.

I asked that question awhile ago, everyone here thought it would be painted white, you would think if it was going to be painted they would do it on the down on the ground.
Galvanizind steel is very hard to prep & paint properly, I cant imagine they would have guys with saftey harnesses painting this every year.

I have a feeling it will be rusty like the rendering, galvanized steel will not stay silver grey for long especially arround salty air and pollution. Look at a large over the road traffic sign truss to get an idea of how I think the finish will weather if left in its present state.

On the previous page you can already see rust starting on the sections.
If only they could come up with some sort of weather proof cover for it.....

I'm super happy the tower is showing signs of being finished soon. Feels good to see whatever they do with the top to finally get done.
The fat section narrows down alot lower than I imagined, that aint no Spire. I'm happy its soon done but its not a spire.

I am wondering how the sections will be assembled without an extension of the temporary platforms.

As excited as I am for the final product of ONE WTC, I must say that no architect has engineered the grace and appeal of the spire atop of the Empire State Building.

The reason they probably dont paint it on the ground is they dont want to ding it up and chip the paint as they install it. But I do believe they will paint it. They wouldn't put it up there just to let it rust. I'm sure they checked into that before making the decision to scrap the radome. I personally would like to see a silver paint used. A silver paint would give it a sleek metallic look that would complement the base cladding. It would also make the L.E.D.'s stand out more at night.

There is a super-blizzard on the way for the Northeast and northern Mid-Atlantic. Current forecasts are predicting 8" of snow at Central Park. Don't expect any more progress here until next week at least.

Next is to lift temporary stairs modules atop the platform.

To put it in a different perspective, that is the same height as the space deck observatory on the CN Tower...

I wanted some perspective on where they are at so I cropped KenfromJersey's photo with the finished designs artwork. Is this correct where they are right now?
