Looks like Atlanta 300 years from now on steroids. If I stumbled out of the desert and saw that I would expect to see droids and robots walking around.

Definitely a cool pic.....BUT.....it does show how small the skyline still is. You can pretty much count the skyscrapers on 2 hands. The Burj Dubai no doubt makes the skyline look impressive....but this skyline still pales in comparison to places like NYC, Chicago and Hong Kong.

That's a great photo, but Dubai really is just one layer of scrapers--like shacks lined up on either side of an old west street. Only history can help it achieve the organic, layered and architecturally variagated appearance of a New York or Chicago.

hummm... The copywrite text on it is the problem... It makes the photo in some way uninteresting. Who wants to be bigger? The pano itself, the copywrite on it or the Burj Dubai among others? The Sheik Road street is really the Wild West Western one, but in East. It is like the guy said, in some years the gangsters would be robots walking around...

that's right, dictatorships funded and supported by America where a small local elite, capitalist ruling class or whatever you wanna call them get some of the cake too, for keeping their populations under control and making sure that the corporate profits keep flowing, 90% of the wealth in 10% of the population, don't you just love it!

Question

what is the population of Dubai? it seems like there are a bunch of random rich people with nothing better to do with their money than build a skyscraper. are any of these buildings even filled yet?

I don't even know if it's two million.

Edit: Around 1.6 million according to Wiki, it also says that Oil and Gas revenues contribute less than 6% of Dubai's economy, surprising if true.
