A disappearance in the news here for the past week has been deemed suspicious.

Another suspicious death in Thunder Bay. No word yet on whether it's suspicious or not because last time the police said a random dead body appearing somewhere wasn't suspicious, it turned out it was suspicious as fuck.

Shooting in Toronto brings it up to 64 for the city. 37 by gun.

Shootings as of December 5th:

390 ocurrences
552 victims

More shootings than any year in the past, but less deaths by gun than in 2005 and 2007. 2005 had 80 homicides with 52 coming by gun and 2007 had 86 homicides 43 by gun.

And I stand by my earlier comment. I doubt Toronto will break 70 before December 31. It is still possible, but it is becoming more and more unlikely.

Quebec City still at one. A body was found in Lac Beauport a week ago. A women missing since March 2016. Still under investigation.

The missing woman in St. Anthony has still not been found. It's the fourth time in 15 years that someone has just disappeared in the town without a trace.

Only four times in 15 years? That sounds low.

It's just a small fishing town, though. 2,200 people, I think.

Now at 21 homicides in Ottawa in 2016 vs 7 in 2015. Average since 2000 is 10 per year.

I suppose this would be a relevant place to point out that gangs from Ottawa are responsible for multiple kidnappings and the increased availability of crack cocaine and crystal meth to Thunder Bay. The most notable kidnapping was of a 17 year old whose father owed them money, he was held hostage and beaten for several days and police found him when the gang was transferring him to another drug den.

It's as if somehow the most extreme form of violence has become an accepted way of settling disputes for some young men in the city. And for the most part they're not connected to each other.

Adding up all the stories it seems to be disparate gang activity. Things will calm if one group can consolidate control.

Yes, it's much better when a single gang has near total control over the illegal drug trade in a city.

So we're all hoping for a single, unified, strong organized crime scene?

So, is this where we can speculate (again) on what's behind the low number of homicides in Montreal?

Yes, it is in the interest of all parties (irish west-end gang, italian mafia, russians, bikers, haitians, etc) to keep the heat out of the port. The less violence = the less trouble = more money for everybody.

London City is still at 4 and London Metro {510k} is at 5 due to one murder in ST.Thomas so far this year. That's a rate of 1/100k, pretty good. Windsor is still at 1!
