Is anyone surprised that Extell has more supertalls in the works?

There's 123 W. 57, their Times Square site, their Brooklyn site, and others. Gary Barnett doesn't mess around.

^ And there are some other parcels on 57th. Man, that canyon is already amazing and will be beyond epic once all those supertalls are completed.

Placeholders for Hudson Yards Phase II

And still many towers missing in that rendering like 50 HY (326m), 55 HY (238m), Tishman Tower (400m+) etc..

The Hudson Yards will be a city within a city.

As of now, the Top 5 cities with the most 200m+ buildings (com, t/o, u/c):

1. Dubai: 81
2. New York: 80
3. Shenzhen: 70
4. Hong Kong: 64
5. Shanghai: 50

Other cities with more than 20 200m+ buildings (com, t/o, u/c):

6. Mumbai: 50
7. Jakarta: 43
8. Tianjin: 39
9. Chongqing: 35
10. Manila: 35
11. Singapore: 32
12. Kuala Lumpur: 31
13. Guangzhou: 30
14. Chicago: 29
15. Nanjing: 28
16. Tokyo: 27
17. Chengdu: 24
18. Shenyang: 24
19. Toronto: 22
20. Panama City: 21
21. Bangkok: 20

----------

If we add prep and pro buildings, New York is at 135.
So most likely New York will be #1 soon, but will be overtaken by Shenzhen in a couple of years.

NYC might be in a lead over Shenzhen by 2020. The building cycle is slowing down there. While there are several u/c and proposed, many are sitting dormant. In terms of the rankings, I'm happy for it eclipsing Dubai because I know most of those have high vacancy rates and where built for pride whereas we use economics to build our towers.

I do want to see Chicago move up the rank. Kinda surprised it fell from its stardom in 200m + category. NYC is bound to eclipse its Far East analog Hong Kong in the supertall game. Before the Dubai boom, Hong Kong was the supertall capital. Times have changed in just 10 years. I am though hoping that Americas 2nd city (Chicago) booms like it did before the recession.

I know, I think that'll happen soon enough though, a boom appears to be starting.

Yeah, I'm eager to see Chicago picking up pace. Although many North American cities are booming (like Miami, Toronto, Mexico City) and some are even building supertalls (LA, SF, Philly), it's still not enough to close the gap. New York is such a monster and cannot be overtaken in the next decade, not even by Chicago.

One could say that New York is in a league of its own in NA. Its real contenders are located in Asia: Dubai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Shanghai.

interesting list. sorry this is off topic, but what's the deal with panama city? seems like an anomaly on this list in terms of location / population.

Panama City is basically where the rich in Latin America drop their real estate money, sort of like NYC at least that's what I think.

Nordstrom Tower is now 1,795ft (547m) pinnacle / 1,530ft (466m) roof! This makes it the tallest tower in New York City and the U.S. by both pinnacle and roof height.

All to keep it secret during the planning process. Once it was u/c, and it made all the major hurdles, the true motive was revealed.
