Also hearing Harberdasher is going into the old Seaman's Lounge building at the southeast corner of Bienville Square.
The old St. Francis St Methodist Church was bought and is being remodeled, hearing it's going to be a music venue. We shall see.
And heared Serda is having problems with the good ol' red tape concerning the brewery.

I've heard rumors about Haberdasher's new spot all over the place, but that space seems right for them.

Serda is having more problems than red tape, I hear.

I forgot to mention the Buick Building on Saint Louis, but they've made some serious progress. I would bet we will hear more about restaurant tenants there soon.

I don't think it means much. Belk looking to sell doesn't necessarily mean stores will close. Mobile is a prime market for Macy's. I doubt yall have anything to worry about.

GulfQuest is a relic before its time. By the time that's it's ever ready to open, it will need to be redone. The 4th pic, every room in the place looks like that. Full of boxes, unassembled furniture. These were taken Wednesday at 2:45 in the afternoon. Not ONE person working in or on the place. Tons of activity from a cargo ship at the neighboring (cruise) terminal, only activity in the area.

That's not dirt. It's pure rust.

Some brighter notes from Wednesday/Thursday. I went with the intention to get some photos of Fort Conde, but while down there I took a quick stroll around (it was quite warm). Nearly all of my photos turned out ... except for most of my Fort Conde ones.

Didn't mean for these to turn out so small. By the time I scaled them, didn't feel like rescaling them.

Gulfquest actually looks amazing from a distance.

Thank you for the pics! I wish that GulfQuest museum would open up already so there's continual maintenance...

GulfQuest needs that pedestrian bridge bad. It's completely cutoff by the railroad tracks. It's a bad timing emergency away from a disaster. The convention center sky bridge is the only way over there and that'd take forever.

Also The Southern Rambler's Facebook page has a thing about them turning the old church into a music/event venue. It's going to sound amazing in there when it's done. New owners have deep pockets so it's not going to be half-done either. Mobile's mini version of The Tabernacle.

New Bel Air Mall Renderings

Rouse Properties now has a series of renderings of a redesigned main entrance and new streetscape on the Bel Air Mall fact sheet page. One of the generic restaurant spaces next to the main entrance highly resembles PF Chang's China Bistro.

Other potential new stores on the streetscape include Pottery Barn and Williams-Sonoma.

The Bel-Air Mall renderings look nice. Nice to seem them break up the storefronts a little more so its not some big monolithic structure.

Recent photo of the Van Antwerp Building. What do you guys think of the raised lettering on the side of the building?

The lettering looks nice. Is there lettering on the south Royal Street facade?

Below is a link for the urban planning proposal of another new downtown hotel in the Fort Conde area. The current design has a rooftop terrace, which would certainly afford great views of the city/port.

Would be neat, but it looks like the idiots at the planning department are recommending it be denied.

They will typically suggest denial based on the form based code (this proposed structure is too tall for the Ft. Conde area according to the code for downtown), but typically it will be worked out in meetings with the city.

The Van Antwerp lettering looks really good at night. Got a nice back lighting behind the letters. I live downtown now so I'll try to get a photo one night soon.
