I'm sorry.

I'm from United States. I'm referring to being at the SkyscraperPage, I have been checking back with highrises from around the world. I love how Paris is developing, and La Defense is getting stylish and high-tech as I should say so.

You're more than welcome.

Bonne journée.

Well, I like to learn and be informed. So, I'm glad to see your pictures and I thank you for sharing them. It gives me a whole lot of inspiration.

Their development has came a long way for 51 years. A good Manhattan feel to it.

I love the Arc de Triomphe as I can see skyline in depth.

Thanks for posting all the info on La Defense! I find the historic photos particularly fascinating. I had no idea an existing neighborhood was razed to build La Defense. It's much like the redevelopment projects of the fifties and sixties in New York, but with a much better outcome.

thanks kvnbklyn ! i will do my best for giving you an answer.i can say i have learned better english on the net...on skyscrapercity and by chatting !sometimes i need a translator but now i will write without ! La Défense is our manhattan in France but you have high rises on other places in and around paris. I will make a small break and post some pictures about high rises which are not at la défense. i am fascinated with la defense, this district is smaller than manhattan or chicago or hong kong skyline. But what's make La Défense amazing is the urbanistic the architectural concept.an urbanistic frezzy an urbanistic thinking of the fifties-sixties : cars and roads underground, people walking on overpasses and on a large slab.today this kind of urbanism is ancient or overtaked.its the reason to modernize la défense.la défense is a contemporary Venice, la défense is for me a science fiction district.you have to visit it.when i am at la défense i am in the future or 50 years behind i can't explain.a very strange feeling !the towers are not very high, pudong manhattan or dubai are very much taller.but its the urbanistic concept of la defense which is unique strange. the "full concrete thinking" of the sixties.
i hope my english is not too bad i am french !sorry !

Others Clusters in Paris.

PARIS FRONT DE SEINE NEAR ON TOUR EIFFEL.
this district of front de seine in paris city is built with the same idea the same urbanistic thinking as la defense, roads underground and a slab for walkers.

PORTE DE BAGNOLET CLUSTER EAST OF PARIS

GARE DE LYON BUSINESS DISTRICT INNER PARIS

TOUR MONTPARNASSE PARIS

TOURS PARIS 13EME.RESIDENTIAL HIGH RISES.INNER PARIS

If all this towers were combined with la Défense, it would make a giant cluster.

I've always been fascinated by this type of development. Growing up, it's how I imagined cities in the future would be. I fully understand the problems with places like this, but I still think that some of the ideas behind them are still valid today.

I've been particularly interested in La Defense as the very modern cousin of the post-modern Battery Park City in New York and Canary Wharf in London. I can't really think of a similar successful modernist development in the US. Most are overly car dominated and anti-urban, such as the New York State Plaza in Albany.

From wikipedia:

And don't worry about your English, it's great! My French consists of one phrase: je parle pas francais.

here two pictures of districts built with the same urbanistic concept.
In two french cities :
the first :
City of Bordeaux, quartier meriadeck or meriadeck district:

the second:
City of Lyon, La Part-Dieu District

samely as la defense but smaller : a slab, overpasses, roads underground.
this district were built in the 1970 seventies.
