^ That's pretty interesting, they seem to have quite a grand vision for it as part of the WC Pavilion. Maybe it could work, if it were tied in more with the creek and less with the street somehow. Such a strange area, I'm glad there are people with the ability to imagine and visualize what could be made of the area, and bring that to fruition.

Thanks for the photos, Priller.

I've been looking out for something in the building structure (like a special reinforced section or something) in these first few floors to indicate where the skywalk to the Convention Center will connect... anyone spotted that yet?

Is it the little blue steel "plank" with the column forms sitting in front on the first pic, maybe? Wouldn't seem so with the orientation to the street, but that does stand out as a potential connection.

The early renderings of the skywalk had it connecting at a lower level in the podium which hasn't been built yet.

Okay, so I've got some more info on this house. I talked with a convention center security guard. Apparently, the house used to be in East Austin and was actually moved here. It's currently being restored and the land is owned by the convention center. It's going to be tied into their operation, as an area for events, visitors, etc. It's going to have a courtyard and there's actually a pond back there that's going to be refurbished. Sounds like it'll be really nice.

I wonder what the history is of this house. Is it just me or does it looks like the back half of the house was sawed away leaving on the the facade and front half of the house left?

This will pretty much solve the expansion dilemma. White Lodging's planned new convention center hotel can now be scaled down to five stories.

Its so symmetrical side to side, front to back that I'm pretty sure it was purposed built that way. I can't imagine it was a residence, more likely a business that fronted a main street to maximize exposure to foot traffic.

The security guard is a little off about its original location. It used to be off San Jacinto Street and 7th. I remember it vividly at that location when I was a kid. I also remember when they moved it because I thought that was the coolest thing to actually be able to move a whole building lol.

I noticed this afternoon that glass has started going up on the North East corner. I didn't get any photos since I was driving, but I'll try to get back later in the week on my bike.
