I was there last night with my wife and a few friends. All in all I really liked the place. I liked the vintage wood interior and the fact that you can have a conversation without having to yell. They need to make some tweaks to their service and menu, but I suspect this will come.

I hope the street rats under the bridge behind the common steal all their one speeds.

We need more of these articles/stories

People told him downtown was dead by mid-afternoon. He smiled, nodded. He keeps the place open until midnight; there’s a help-wanted sign in the window, for day and night shifts.

Given time, Zee could list 10,694 reasons why he loves Edmonton.

“This is the best city to raise your kids,” says the man who has lived all over the world. “This is a beautiful life here.”

We drove into town on Saturday just to go for a beer and/or a Scotch. 20 min drive from the house. If we had stayed in St Al it still would have been about 10 min drive or 20 min walk and find a "good" place for a beer. So 20 min is not bad.

What we noticed was that there is an incredible vibe in the core since we both lived there some 20 years ago. Sitting in Cask and Barrel we noticed the large numbers of young professionals as well as a number of other Suburbanites that, like us enjoy the choices of restaurants and watering holes.

Talking with the couple beside us (The other Suburban types) they were excited with the change in the core and were indicating that the Arena would change the downtown for the better. There was a kind of excitement, it’s hard to explain but if you had lived here in the 80’ and 90s you definitely see the remarkable changes in downtown. 104st is becoming the funky street Edmonton needed. We need even more restaurants and more people living there. We also need ALL of the Media to buy in to how good the downtown really is.

We also need another 10,000 people to 'buy in'.

According to Graham Hicks, an entire new structure is being built for Cactus instead of the ground floor of the Devonian building??

"A second Cactus Club will open whenever a brand-new structure is built on Jasper Avenue just east of the re-constructed Devonian Building between 111 and 112 Street. No signs of construction yet."

Hicks' crystal ball is often blurry.

But the lack of any activity on the site is confusing. You'd think they'd want to build out over the winter and be ready for a spring/summer rollout

Coming in from Calgary and looking for a decent place on the south side to get together with friends for drinks on Saturday. Would prefer to stay off Whyte. Any suggestions?

Fixed that for you.

My favourite patio on Whyte. Great place when the weather is nice, or the sky is clear (if the heater lamps are on).

If you are going to Bothy make reservations.

Next Act is good for meeting and talking.

Went to Next Act a few times over the last few years. Service was horrid both times. Have they fixed this then?

Not sure, but I have been 4-5 times over the last year or two without issue other than just being busy.
