Yep, those should be the columns for the mechanical screen/crown.

A nice, bright LED light on the crown would look so nice at night

oil and gas industry

With the oil and gas industry taking a pretty good hit in this post-coronavirus economy I sure hope this tower gets completed.
I'd hate to refer to this building as parsley completed

It will get completed, but there might not be much left of Parsley Energy when the time comes to move in. They are busy trying to trim overhead and, rumor has it, unloading some of their mineral assets to shore up balance sheet. Hard to imagine them surviving long with prices this low. The vultures (the really BIG oil and gas operators) are circling overhead poised to snag reserves at distressed prices.

It's ironic that it looms over the Hobby Building. That building was taken over by the gov during the mid 80s energy bust.

I wouldn't be surprised if Parsley filed bankruptcy to get out of their lease. At least this one is close to being completed. But a Parsley bankruptcy would dump a lot of office space on the market and further delay the start of any new office towers.

I'm liking how you can see the Indeed Tower through the gap between 300 Colorado and Ashton.

Getting up there. Intentionally used the tree to obstruct the Hobby Building, but the Hobby Building is about to look even more out of place.

Awesome pic! ^

Here's one from trail yesterday that shows the crown construction a bit better.

The J.W. Marriott looks awesome in that shot. I don't know if I've ever seen it from the slender side before, but it looks really impressive.

^Yep. I like the J.W. Marriott. I believe that photo was taken from St. Edward's University. I'm thankful that the hotel and One Eleven sit back from Congress so that the view of the Frost Bank Tower isn't blocked. The Frost Bank Tower is still prominent in South Austin from a lot of spots.

Also, I just noticed the tower cranes over 300 Colorado makes it look like a floating suspension bridge.

It was reported in the Update thread that the main tenant in 405 Colorado DLA Piper backed out of their pre-lease. But the ABJ is reporting that they leased space from Parsley Energy in 300 Colorado instead.

I seem to recall that Parsley was originally the sole tenant? Parsley Energy is unlikely to survive the current shake out in the Texas energy segment. I suspect they'll do what they can to get out from under their lease in coming weeks and months. Can't help but wonder how the rest of the downtown Austin office market is going to fare in the coming storm?

things are going to be extremely competitive that is for sure. as we can see that here.

dla piper was going into 405 but had an exit clause if tower wasn't x completed.

well the pandemic stalled construction and brandywine didn't meet the build goal.

we've all seen oil prices the past two weeks, parsley energy now no longer sole tenant and made offer to DLA piper (i'm assuming on the cheap) and DLA made the shrewd move.

pretty cutthroat for good ole Austin! commercial real estate is morphing into something else here
