There is this from The Mesquite, the student-run newspaper for A&M SA:

http://mesquite-news.com/2012/02/ver...r-main-campus/

"With two new buildings in the early planning phase for Main Campus, close to S. Zarzamora Street and Loop 410, Verano Land Group is galvanizing plans for future retail, housing and entertainment along walkable streets and sidewalks."

“We don’t have any leases yet, but that’s how we’ll start,” he said. “We’re making progress, but it just takes a while to negotiate these things.” D’Alesandro said he expects to announce the final vision within the next three to four months."

Two new buildings are ready to turn dirt in November.

A&M-S.A. has plans to blossom

This month, Texas A&M University System regents approved $75 million for two more buildings, including a massive future campus centerpiece, both critical to the university's freshly inked development plan.

Looking good. That looks much better than what I had expected.

I have to be honest, I sort of was expecting something like a boring suburban campus that looked more like a Holiday Inn than a college. But that looks nothing like I had feared. Looks like the read deal. =)

The first parts of the private development down in Verano are getting ready to break ground in a few months.

236 student-focused apartments plus 100 town homes and a 75,000 square foot building.

Sounds like all of it will be along University Way and hopefully this means they're sticking to their original vision of an urban neighborhood.

Quote:
The 75,000-square-foot building will be directly across main campus building and south of the housing complex. Bartlett said it was too early to disclose information about the building's use.

Okay, lets not get carried away with the word "awesome"
It's basically the same sketch copied 5 times.

I had just woken up! lol
Anyway, I like them for the area. I think they're pretty cool, especially since there isn't anything like that south of 410.

Exactly. Texas A&M-San Antonio and Verano are changing the face of the south side.

University Way is literally the standard for roads within Verano. University Way is an exceptionally designed road.

Another phase is kicking off down in Verano. The article doesn't give any details on where in the development these will be, but it does say 4,000 multifamily units are still planned. It's good to see these guys really moving now.

I also like the rendering of the homes; it's traditional form meets a modern style.

It's the first phase of a plan to build more than 2,000 single-family homes there over the next decade, said Brooke Rogers, vice president of business development for the firm.

I like this a lot. This is definitely the anchor of development on that part of town. And just imagine if SA lands the aerospace project! South side is the place to be.

The new Central Academic Building has been topped out with its awesome dome.

This building makes a great impression as you come down University Way. I'll try and get out to take some more photos this weekend.

I couldn't see any construction along University Way, apart from the A&M building.

Verano Development Moves Forward

The first phase of the Verano Master plan is moving forward. The project was temporary halted due to years of planning, legal proceedings and setbacks associated with the economic recession. On Thursday, the San Antonio City Council approved the staff recommendation of the following items:
• Amended TIRZ Project and Finance Plans
• Amended Development Agreement
• Approval of the "Assignment of Rights"
• Amended Consent Agreement
• Amended Interlocal Agreements with Bexar County, the San Antonio River Authority and Alamo Colleges

The action paves the way for homebuilders to begin phase 1, which is the development of up to 500 single family homes.

The Verano Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone (TIRZ) was designated by the City in 2007. It is composed of nearly 3,100 acres of future master planned development and 500 acres donated for the Texas A&M San Antonio campus. Future phases will include student housing, multifamily units, parks, and a retail component all designed in a walk-able town center setting.

This marks the beginning of another initiative aimed at continuing residential, commercial, and educational investment in our district.
