You almost have to go out of your way to make it look that bad. Remember, someone who passed the architect exam got paid to design this.

Oh man, that sounds like a great name for a firm where architecture goes to die.

Developer buys northeast Portland property for 200-plus new apartments

A multifamily development and management company has purchased a property along Northeast Sandy Boulevard for a 206-unit apartment complex.

Fairfield Residential paid $3.6 million for the five-parcel lot, which has been home to several businesses, including United Auto Wholesalers and Abe's Towing.

Graham Taylor, a first vice president in CBRE’s Portland office, negotiated the sale on behalf of the seller, Leeds Sandy LLC.

Yes, It's True: Iconic Portland Dive Bar Club 21 Is Closing

When we last checked in with the folks at Club 21, there was hope that the building—long under threat of demolition, due to the property owners' plans to building on the site for years now—would be able to be moved in total to a new location. Sadly, Club 21 business owner Warren Boothby confirmed with the Mercury today that despite prolonged efforts, it looks like this project is not going to be feasible. The building that houses the beloved dive bar is not structurally sound enough to survive the move, and as a result, the bar will do its last days of business this weekend, with the Club's final night being Sunday, January 15.

Crusher Court to open in Timberline Dodge building on Sandy

Developer Kevin Cavenaugh said that construction is just wrapping up on Guerilla Development’s Crusher Court project at 2500 N.E. Sandy Blvd. in the Kerns neighborhood.

“We’ve taken one of the old Timberline Dodge buildings, carved 5,000 square feet out of the middle of it, and turned it into a dozen commercial spaces,” Cavenaugh said. “There are five retailers in the Sandy storefronts and seven creative spaces in a new inner courtyard.”

Most businesses should be open in February and March and maybe a straggler or two in April, Cavenaugh added.

Notice of a Pre-Application Conference for 15 NE Broadway, a five (!) story auto showroom. Not in love with the use, but if free up all that adjacent land in the same ownership it could be transformational for that area.

It probably is! Hopefully it will reduce the footprint of all the rest of the lots they have in the neighborhood. If all of those lots were suddenly developable, it would be a great change to the neighborhood. Broadway Toyota/Kia has about three or four blocks worth of parking lots in parts and pieces in the area if memory serves. If these could be consolidated into one big structure, it would be a net gain for the neighborhood.

It actually sounds like a great responsible solution for an urban car dealership to me. Also, as a customer, who wants to walk all over to find the car you want? I did that many years ago at Wentworth. We had to wander from block to block to find the four or five versions of what I wanted. I was amazed at how many places these dealerships have cars stashed in the neighborhood. All of that landscape closed up with minimal use is cheap, but kills the life of the neighborhood. Consolidating has to be better for business and the city.

Absolutely true, the consolidation could be a major improvement for Broadway. The adjacent neighborhood north of Broadway is making slow changes and it will be nice to see that continued. I would like to how they will manage traffic in and out of the dealership. On the north you have a neighborhood street with housing and on the west a street with the highest bicycle counts in the city (a full 1/3 of traffic during the summer months) so I'd hope that they take this into consideration. I'd also like to see if all internal traffic can be handled without cars entering the city streets as it does now.

All but one of the five blocks between Williams and MLK on Broadway are owned by the same company, it would be great to get three (or more) full blocks of housing developed here. It's all zoned CX but it probably wouldn't be difficult to rezone this to mixed use.
