With so many Alaska MVPs in the Northwest, it's easier to get an upgrade on Delta than Alaska, especially if you at the lower levels.

Upgrades on Delta; maybe to SEA or LAX but nearly impossible on transcons. With Delta monetizing first class and shrinking the first class cabin on 757's it pretty much impossible. I'm a Diamond Medallion and fly about 200 flights a year on Delta. My upgrade percent this year is about 10%

Keep it coming! What's next? I can see some of these becoming a reality within the next year or two:

AA PDX-MIA
AA PDX-JFK
AS PDX-JUN (seasonal)
AS PDX-FAI (seasonal)
QX/OO PDX-ABQ
QX/OO PDX-OKC
QX/OO PDX-MKE
WN PDX-BNA
DL PDX-CUN (seasonal)
BA PDX-LHR (I'd love to see BA go all in at PDX and go year round with Alaska's feed kicking DL off the route, although I know this is probably unlikely any time soon.)
?? PDX-PVG/ICN/PEK (pick one)

I don't know if this'll gain any traction here, but speculation is fun.

Scroll down to page 3 to see the new PDX CC-E rendering....

Alleviate the current imbalance of passengers being
served on the south side of the PDX terminal. Enhance
operational efficiencies. Improve the level of service
throughout the terminal. These are the primary
objectives of PDX’s Terminal Balancing project, which
will position the terminal to meet the needs of the future.
The recently approved project will design, plan and
build a 6-gate, 750-foot extension to Concourse E
on the north side of the terminal. This construction
project will add needed gate capacity and allow airline
movements in order to balance the terminal. Southwest
Airlines will move from Concourse C to the newly
constructed concourse extension on Concourse E.
United Airlines will remain in place on Concourse E.
Over the next several months, the Terminal Balancing
project team will continue to plan and design the
project; the anticipated start of impactful construction
is mid- to late-2017 with significant completion in early
2020. If you have questions about the project, contact
Willie Wilcoxen at 503.415.6554.

Are 6 gates enough for southwest?

SW will move to E extension and occupy those newly built 6 gates and AS,AA, and B6 will occupy all of CC-C 23 gates..........................All of the other airlines will on E and D once the extension is completed.................If you look at the rendering on page 3, all of airlines future locations are clearly marked accept for QX,KS, and K5...........We can assume they will be located on A and B....

Not sure I could be more clear with my question. Are 6 gates enough for south west? I could be wrong but it seems like they currently have more than 6 gates on the C concourse.

Interesting, so no more plans to move Alaska. I guess that means this concourse E extension is simply 6 new gates for SW, no prop plane parking. I think Canada Air uses the current concourse E for their prop service. Guess they'll resume their spot after construction? I would imagine 6 gates are enough for SW right now, but not sure about 3 years and beyond.

Too bad Alaska isn't getting a new terminal. Concourse C is good, but the A / B gates for Alaska's smaller jets and props are pretty cramped. A hub airport's busiest airline oughta get the best facilities, but maybe the E extension wasn't gonna provide enough capacity.

Icelandair increasing PDX service to 5x/week

Next summer icelandair will be flying to Portland 5x/week. Up from 4x/week this past summer. Great to have more flight options when flying to Europe from PDX.

Next summer Portland-Europe flights will see:
PDX-Amsterdam daily DL A333
PDX-London 4x/week DL 763
PDX-Frankfurt, Germany 4x/week Condor 763
PDX-Iceland 5x/week FI 752

Hopefully we can add a nonstop to Paris in the future.

October 2016 Monthly Stats

PDX released the monthly traffic statistics for October 2016. Check 'em out here!

Some highlights for those of you who don't feel like reading the whole report...

Overall passengers:
October 2016= 1,595,394 Up 9.2% compared to October 2015
YTD 2016= 15,306,461 Up 8.9% compared to YTD 2015
With these numbers, even if the airport has no increase in passengers over last year at all for the next two months, PDX will still serve just over 18 million in 2016!

My rough, back of the napkin international load factor calculations for October 2016:
Condor (DE)- 72%
Icelandair (FI)- 74%
Volaris (Y4)- 84%

Not bad, especially considering that DE and FI dramatically increased their service this October (DE went from 4 flights to 14, and FI went from 12 to 24).

Excited to see what next year brings. Cathay Pacific passenger service maybe...?

I'm surprised to see Volaris at 84%, that's actually pretty impressive.

Nice additions. The E175 is a great aircraft for these long, thin missions.

Wonder if these moves will trigger a fare war with Southwest?

Wow. I didn't realize it was going to extend that far out.

I feel the Port is wasting a lot of money by not going entirely to common use which allows for much better asset utilization. Airline specific gates only serve as barriers to entry for new airlines and don't serve the public good.

I am also disappointed that the Port didn't address the current solution for international arrivals. It is a pain as a passenger to have to collect your luggage and then take it with you on a bus. It would have made more sense to convert the current United gates to intenational and make the investments in moving the Federal customs and immigrate to that area.

If both CUTE were enacted and the international gates were moved investment could have been limited and balancing can easily be done on a gate by gate basis. There are very few connecting passenger at PDX and those few that do wouldn't have to walk more than 10 minutes to get from gate to gate anyway.
