Oh, they can shrink them alright, or enlarge them. As long as they plan for it in the structural engineering process, they can do it. There's the Blue Cross Blue Shield office building in Chicago. They're adding 25 floors to the existing 33-story building. It'll go from about 400 feet to 743 feet. The building had been structurally engineered so that more floors could be added later.

Here's the construction thread on it. They've already started.

They'd never listen to us.

The reason it shrunk is because they're expensive to begin with, and they've been raising the prices. I know people who were interested, but the price kept going up and up, and in the end they just said "forget it".

Bank across the street

I passed the Broadway today, and was thinking, instead of building a bank across the street, McCombs should build another Broadway building, and at the tenth floor, a sky bridge crossing Hildabrand, connecting the two. Vidorra has two planned, why not Broadway?

This page has a few "rooftop" views. Looks like its up to at least six or seven floors now

Excellent views. (From the Broadway site)

North

South

East

West

Country Club. If there's one thing the Broadway has going for it, from the luxury highrise point of view, it's that its a block to the Country Club.

Incarnate Word

The Hildebrand Broadway intersection looks nice in these pictures. Too bad it's usually jammed with traffic.

Fantastic pictures.

I may be wrong but I think those pictures went under the photo shop knife. I know I'm not wrong because those seem to have been taken as the sun is setting and anyone who's been in that area at 7:30 can tell you there are cars, and aggravating amount of them.

They removed the cars that populate Broadway and Hildebrand. The only time I ever see so desolate is at 1 am. lol

It makes sense to photo shop out the cars as the congestion might be off putting for potential buyers.

The 7th floor is poured on and the columns have to still be poured in.
As for the two towers idea; the slab for the bank has already been set.
A Wachovia? What a waste of space.

Too bad San Antonio's downtown isn't a little more condensed.

(Please excuse the quick Photoshop job.)

It could be 7:30 on a Sunday, that would explain the lack of cars.

That doesn't really look like a photoshop job at all, it looks totally real. Maybe you could've even gone one step further and put the Weston and Marriott Rivercenter in the middle and scootched the Alamodome in a little bit more.

btw, (not that I'm requesting that you do this), I've always wondered what downtown would look like with the whole Medical Center area next to it, meaning the Med Center itself, along with USAA and the buildings concentrated along I-10 and along Fred Rd.

Thanks, but if you look above the tower and on the left side of the photo you'll see it.

I see what you're saying. There's a vertical rectangle on the left side of the image that is slightly discolored. Besides that, the skyline looks right.

San Antonio has one of those skylines where if you view it from a certain angle it looks spread out and sparse. But then from other angles it looks fantastic.

I can see it now. Since I was just focusing on the buildings it wasn't immediately obvious. Still not complaining about the work you did, tho

Thanks, guys. I think SA will pretty much always have the two parts of the skyline because of the Alamo, Riverwalk and convention center. They take up a big portion of space between the CBD and the Tower/hotels.

At least from the broadway angle, even if a high rise goes up at the River Center/Commerce St. garage, there is still a huge gap. Only hope for infill of the skyline views for this area is for some talls to get built between Broadway and 37, from 3rd street to the north.

It wouldn't be that bad if some of the garages and parking lots around Market and Commerce at Navarro and Presa were replaced by something of decent height. River North development will probably also improve that view in the future.
