I will get a chance to ride with one of the continental teams in a couple of weeks. but plan to catch a few stages. To bad Highwood is closed, I would have done the hike to see the KOM.

Prologue – Capital Start
Tuesday, September 3 – Edmonton
Race Start: 6:15PM
Start/Finish Location: Sir Winston Churchill Square (99 Street and 102A Avenue)
Distance: 7.3 kilometres

The Tour of Alberta will begin with a Prologue to showcase the racers with a one at a time individual time trial through Alberta’s capital city, where racers fight for seconds for the right to wear the first ever Tour of Alberta leader’s jersey. Starting and finishing at Sir Winston Churchill Square in the heart of downtown Edmonton, this eight-kilometre course will be covered by the individual cyclists in less than 10 minutes. However, those 10 minutes will be action-packed as spectators will see racers navigate tight neighborhoods, bomb down Grierson Hill at 80-kilometres-an-hour, or fight their way up the climb from the North Saskatchewan river valley through the Alberta Legislature grounds back to downtown. The man who conquers all will be the first to etch his name in Tour of Alberta history.

I hope they send a few city crews to do cleanup of litter and a few street cleaners along the route tonight... walked a portion of it downtown and it was not looking very good in some areas.

I watched a bit of this on TV, not really a cycling fan, but was still neat to see. I hope this becomes an annual event!

It's too bad the Canmore part got cancelled due to the flood, and the most scenic leg (Black Diamond) was so rainy, the mountain views from there are spectacular!

I think you will see 2 mountain sections next year and Canmore-Highwood Pass will be part of it.

I was out there near Millarville on Saturday. It may have been raining in Calgary, but the ceiling lifted out by Millarville and the mountains were visible.

Had a great time watching the cyclists!

As my wife said, you get a real appreciation for the sport seeing it live. She loved the bunch sprints but now she is in awe of it. She also wants to travel to the Giro or the Tour next year.
