Albion -

Check out the new steam pipe work happening in Albion as part of the infrastructure upgrades to support Albion College's Body and Soul Center. Approximately 1,700 linear feet of steam lines are being run between the college's central heating plant and the Washington Gardner School. Part of the work involves using horizontal auger borings to run new lines underneath East Michigan Avenue -

I know. It's a stretch, right? I typically think of Battle Creek, or maybe even Marshall, as the eastern edge of "Western MI".

But where else was I going to lump it in? Ann Arbor / Jackson? Lansing?

Plus, I think Albion is technically part of the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek CSA, so I think I can justify it on those grounds.

I think it's going to be 8 structures in total. 4 apartment buildings, 3 townhouse buildings, plus a central community building.

Muskegon -

I had a feeling that the 5-story addition onto the existing 5-story structure was too good to be true and would prove too cost-prohibitive. So, we probably will not get a "new" 10-story downtown tower with this one.

I thought the halfway point between Chicago and Detroit was the old Half Way House Restaurant on the Sprinkle Rd exit in Kalamazoo?

Interesting. I never knew / heard that. It's somewhere in that general vicinity, depending on how it is measured. The sign post in my avatar image is taken along the Portage Creek Bicentennial Park Trail, where it crosses under I-94 (in-between S Westnedge Ave & Lovers Ln). That's about 2-3 miles west of Sprinkle Rd.

This is a substantial project for Sturgis:

City Commission Hears Development Plan For Downtown Sturgis

Quote:
(STURGIS) – A mixed use development plan for a portion of downtown Sturgis was presented to the City Commission during their meeting Wednesday night.

John Carmichael, President of Root and Branch Real Estate shared with the Commissioners his idea for a project that he has been working on and researching for over a year. The project would be on the site of 108 to 114 West Chicago Road, which are the sites for Sportsarama, Mike's Pizza and Subs and the former China Garden Restaurant. Carmichael says those buildings would be knocked down and a new one constructed. ...... {LISTEN}.

Good to see these types of investments in Michigan..

Battery manufacturer plans $1.5 billion investment in Holland, up to 1,000 jobs

Quote:
LG Energy Solution, a South Korean based electric vehicle battery manufacturer, plans to invest $1.5 billion in its Holland campus by 2025, creating more than 1,000 jobs, the company says.

Holland City Manager Keith Van Beek said in a memo that the state is offering the company an incentive package with an estimated value of $525 million, including a $10 million workforce housing loan program.

Wayland (Township) -

Gun Lake Casino held a groundbreaking on Thursday, May 19 for its $300 million resort hotel (a.k.a. "Phase 5"). The project will include a 15-story, 252-room hotel on the west side of the casino, as well as an attraction called "The Aquadome", which will feature three pools within a 32,000 SF glass dome that can be converted into a concert or event venue. If I'm not mistaken, once finished, this will become the tallest building located between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.

I'm not a big gamer myself, but TBH, this expansion looks pretty cool and I probably will check it out one day, if mainly to bring the family to the indoor water park. The renderings have a bit of a retro vibe that I'm digging, somewhat reminiscent of the vintage Holiday Inn "Holodomes" and other similar attractions. This hotel expansion was the inevitable next step in Gun Lake's effort to solidify its role as the premier casino destination in West Michigan and to compete directly with other regional casinos like Firekeepers and Four Winds -

Ground was broken on the $11.2 million Muskegon Museum of Art expansion last month. Designed by Annum Architects (Formerly Ann Beha Architects) with Mathison | Mathison Architects, the 26,000 SF expansion will double the size of the museum and provide new space for exhibits, education, collections storage, and visitor amenities -
