It's on the agenda for tomorrow's Planning Advisory Committee meeting. 5:30pm.

Variances were approved with the normal conditions. PAC recommended city council go ahead with the rezoning. Now it’s in council’s hands.

I am not surprised. We are in desperate need of places to live. Yes these might not be the most affordable units, but the more units available the better. I am sure the public meeting will be interesting, but I have a feeling council has full intentions to approve this. As well as the other larger projects in the pipeline waiting.

Great news! Let's hope nobody starts planting tomatoes in nearby lots.

Retail Talk & Share is a very well run and managed site. I frequently am in touch with their admin. Sometimes they are quicker off the mark than we are here, but, it is Facebook, and this alone tends to draw out the crazies in the comment section. I know this is a source of frustration for them.

SSP has a tighter development focus, and appeals more to real urban enthusiasts. There is a lot of self selection here, and as such, comments are a lot more self-curated.

"Facebook... You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious."

I’m not entirely sure if anyone already said when the finish date for this was but on the skyskraper diagram it’s says this project is set to be finished by 2028.

Where is this skyscraper diagram of which you speak?

2028 is five years off. I can't see this project taking longer than three years tops.

The public meeting for Infinity is tomorrow, after which 2nd & 3rd readings of the rezoning request will quickly take place by city council. It should be a very interesting day.......

And there's still lots of time left this year to get the project started.

So if you want to get to the diagrams hit the diagrams button around the top of your screen and after that scroll all the way down. Now you have to name the city, province and country and after that it should show the Moncton skyline

Got it, thanks. I was aware of the diagrams forum on SSP, but had no idea someone had made an entry for Infinity.

It's important to remember that the author is an anonymous SSP member, and his information may not be official, or correct. If the 2028 completion date is correct, this would imply that construction is not imminent, as I think it would take no longer than three years to complete this project. My gut however is telling me that construction will commence shortly after final approval is given.

If approval is given tomorrow, I think you will see site prep beginning by the first of September, with excavation complete by the time snow flies, probably with foundation work and installation of the base of the tower crane. Significant construction will begin next spring, with completion by late 2026 or early 2027.

This is what my gut tells me...........

Here is an excerpt from the agenda for tomorrows council meeting:

Quote:
7.2 Public Hearing – Rezoning at 1383 Ryan Street – Objections received
7.3 Public Hearing – Rezoning at Harper Street & Main Street – Objections received
The objections for the Ryan Street apartment complex refer to typical NIMBY concerns.

The objections to Infinity however are much more concerning. As we know, there are really no neighbours for this project that legitimately would have a complaint. The opposition for Infinity are an organized group concerned about what a development of this size might mean for the future character of the city. From what I am to understand, they want to create size and height limits that would affect the entire downtown of the city, and that would stifle Ashford/Downing, One Foundry, St. Bernard Square in addition to Infinity. The threat posed by this group are existential. This is a very important meeting for city council - very likely the most important meeting of the current mandate. The future of the city is at stake...........
