Yesterday (3/13/13) the Chicago City Council passed the ordinance amending the existing zoning for Wolf Point, PD-98. See page 3 (316-326 Orleans; Agenda Item 26) of document linked below:

I'll be genuinely shocked if either of the wolf point office towers break ground in the next 24 months. But i'll take what I can get, happy to hear about another BKL tower.

Speaking about the office component, at what point does Hines have to start worrying about a conflict of interest? They have different partners on all these competing projects correct?

I thought about that, but it really doesn't matter. Hines is steering tenants toward River Point right now to get it leased up, and the Wolf Point towers could be 6-10 years in the future. They're not actively courting tenants for Wolf Point right now, although they might be hoping that the site and the design are compelling enough that some big anchor tenant comes to them.

The important thing was getting the zoning, which unlocked the ability to build a residential tower and some of the infrastructure for future towers.

I like the existing Riverwalk on the top of the protected natural riverbank and bluff. That's where it should remain.

To me this development is important to provide landmark terminus views looking west and north on the river, It also has to succeed in masking the giant shoe box blandness of the north Mart building.

I don't get small minded special interest groups who lack the greater picture of continuing to build a unique beautiful city center. it's every Chicago generation's mission to keep building up the city, not restricting it.

It's not natural, it's artificial. During the AM construction there was removal of debris along the shoreline and once complete, it was regraded and seeded when the parking lot / former parking garage was constructed. But over time the shoreline was neglected. That's like arguing freeway embankments are natural when governments run out of money to care for them. Just look at older photos. It was a muddy mess and I'm sure that soil is probably very contaminated and should be removed.

The Army Corps of Engineers gave the OK on this project. In my opinion they are the ultimate say on what happens to the rivers edge.

Here's a link to a picture of RiverBend's and River Point's bulkheaded riverbank taken from the Lake Street bridge over the tracks.

Whoo! Whoo! Train pulling in! (Cover of "The Milwaukee Road" by Tom Burke, Stock No. 17816, but currently out of print)

Looks to me to be a late 40's - early 50's picture. You guys are sure desperate. lol!

Sorry if this link is already posted, but I do not feel like searching through Jarta posts. This is the only thread I avoid.

Chris Kennedy has already thought of the arguments in that Wolf Point lawsuit

Sad, they killed that beautiful strip of green grass for all the fauna. Then they cantilevered a concrete deck out over into the river thereby reducing navigable waters by two feet! Someone go tattle, quick!!
