Chinatown has a lot of history and character to build a fantastic neighbouhood around, but E. Hastings could be Vancouver's most impressive and expressive street with the level of architecture it has and the diversity of people it would attract.
Has there been 1 proposal in Oppenheimer from a private developer to this point?

Do you mean 475 Main? I would agree, & at some point it will happen. The owner is probably making decent money leasing it at the moment. I'm sure Faye Leung's decision to redevelop her property @601-627 Main has the owner of 475 thinking about the possibilities...Meanwhile 550 Main has been vacated & is looking a bit forlorn, hopefully someone will rehab the old-timer. 292 E. Hastings is for sale & will probably be redeveloped (big corner property). The Oppenheimer area (DEOD) is a little slow to come around, other than 557 East Cordova (
http://www.boffoproperties.com/cordovan/), not much is new but there is this one on the periphery:
http://ingastown.com/protected/invest.html...it's just a matter of time. And now 649 E. Cordova is on the market. I could have sworn the large property on the N.E. corner of Powell & Jackson was also for sale, I'll have to look into it. E.Hastings has some amzing bldgs, just hope everything doesn't get raised in the big rush to redevelop.
