All of this wet weather actually came through here first and got worst in the East Kootenays and obviously even worse once it crossed the border into Alberta. We had our big flooding last year so I guess it your guys' turn.

My worry is more about Glenmore Dam. I recall in 2005 there were concerns with its structure especially when the water breached the top of it. And if they figure water levels are going to be higher then I'd be worried.
In 2005 it got topped - so they had to open it full-bore in a hell of a hurry. I think that's partially why they've already issued a mandatory evacuation for all of the communities downstream.

Hearing of more and more random road/area closures. Friend in Discovery Ridge is saying they're basically shutting down access to the community right now. No evacuation if you're on high ground, but no one else allowed in.

I think it's safe to say that staying home tonight is a good idea for everybody. Who the hell knows what will be open and what won't, by tonight. The heavy flows haven't even started yet.

That's going to cause chaos. I don't have to down that way, but if I did, I'd be leaving work now.

Yeah me and a bunch of my friends work in south deerfoot industrial.
Luckily I don't normally go that way but many of my friends do.

Even then all the other roads are going to be jammed because of this.

The first part is actually serious. They've evacuated the zoo. Not sure of the plans for the animals.

Banff has evacuated some of the big campgrounds, that are closer to rivers. People are being moved into Tunnel Mountain. Luckily this didn't happen on a busy weekend.

It doesn't sound like they are closing deerfoot.
It sounds like they are just closing the ramps from westbound glenmore to both north and southbound deerfoot.

City of Calgary (@cityofcalgary):
Due to flooding a closure of the two eastbound lanes on Memorial Dr between 5A St and Centre St NW is planned. #yycflood

City of Calgary ‏@cityofcalgary
Please be aware of the following closures: Ramp from westbound Glenmore to both north and southbound Deerfoot to be closed by rush hour.
