I'm pretty sure the big birds will land on the west runway since it's the longer one of the two. So watching from the viewing area next to the golf course might not be the best spot. You might just have to find a place across 71 from the airport to sit and watch.

One good spot might be inside the trailer park at Riverside and 71 and 183. You might also try Metropolis Drive. It's pretty close to the west runway and that area sits on a hill about 50 feet higher than 71. So you'd have a good view off to the north where the planes are coming from. You also have to pay attention to which way the wind is blowing. Planes always land into the wind, so if it's coming out fo the north they'll land from the south, in which case you'll need to find a spot on the back side of the airport along 183 some place.

One piece of advice, if you do go out there to watch planes land, bring a jacket because it gets considerably colder out there than in town. I can remember many times when we went to that viewing area that it was warm and comfortable in town, but really pretty cold and windy at that spot next to the airport.
