Suburban Life in Turkey | Istanbul & Ankara SPRAWL
I thought it would be interesting to share these pictures I found on google maps of suburban communities outside Istanbul and Ankara. Some are really similar to developments in Southern California or South Florida, but some are much denser and have better architecture than the cookie cutter style houses seen in the US. In the US I can't see the need for people to flee the cities since they are new and organized, now I'm not advocating sprawl here but in the case of Istanbul I can see how someone would want to live very far from the chaos that comes from living in an ancient city. Ankara on the other hand isn't much older than most US cities and has no excuse for it's westward sprawl all the way out to the ring road. I've always wanted to photograph these myself but I don't have a car at my disposal when I'm in Turkey and they're far from the city center so there's no point in trying. When I found them online I figured it's the next best thing and wanted to share them here.

I thought I'd include Izmir as a bonus since it's Turkey's third largest city, but does not have the same suburban developments that Istanbul and Ankara have because it's more constrained by the bay and the mountains surrounding it.
