Let's hope that includes some exterior work... fantastic facility for the City, but boy is she ugly.

Concourse areas could use a freshen-up. Some nicer exterior treatments would be welcome as well

EDIT: Oops.. cog Kinsmen and Commonwealth mixed up

Kinsmen is in need of help as well for it to compete with the newer, nicer facilities that have been built recently

Has the Commonwealth Games lost its lustre as he claims?

City unveils logo for Commonwealth bid
Committee to pursue 2022 Games named

Otiena Ellwand
Edmonton Journal

Wednesday, July 02, 2014

It only took Reg Milley, the former president and CEO of Edmonton Airports, about 10 seconds to decide to put retirement on hold to lead Edmonton's bid for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

"It's an opportunity to raise our profile again globally. What we want to do is put our best foot forward and to get ourselves in front of decision-makers all over the world," said the chair of the bid committee...

I am so pleased that we have Reg Milley leading the Bid Committee. He has demonstrated through his actions at EIA his capability to lead and be successful. Thank you Mr. Milley!

Maybe, or maybe they just haven't been here in 20 years so it's hard to tell.

My support for this, other than bringing a ton of people to Edmonton, is that we can use events like this to leverage many things such as LRT, facility and other capital improvements.

True. But lets leave that as a third benefit and put the goal of Commonwealth and Sport first and second. It is much more palatable to the public and politicians.

I would actually disagree with you and Reg Milley on 1260 even said today that it is about a legacy for the city.

But linking more city building to the games implies that without the games you don't need the city building.

I fully expect that by the middle of the next decade the LRT to West Edmonton Mall will be open, but trying to link the project to this and turning the screws isn't going to help to get it open by summer 2022.

I am sure there is going to be some discussion on this over the next weekend. I believe the COC is in Town this weekend. I know some people that are here for it and will bring up some hopes.

COC was in town this weekend for their annual meeting. They were at the Westin. Commonwealth was brought up in an update, from what I was hearing or rumored, SA is probably going to get them. Apparently its Africa's turn.

This is coming from some inside sources, I was not in the meetings but had drinks with a couple of out of town friends that were.
