The air looks like it could be cut with a knife or eaten with a spoon.

Eating that with a spoon would probably be as fatal as brushing your teeth with it.

For a country that's going through an economic slowdown, I see an awful lot of cranes building things.

This tower is incredible. With the vertical terra cotta accents on the facade and subtle setbacks, I can't even begin to imagine how staggeringly tall this must appear in person.

Rosewood hotel in Guangzhou to have 45 mph elevatorsBy Danny King
The Rosewood and W luxury hotel brands separately revealed expansion plans in China, with properties slated for Guangzhou and Shenyang, respectively.

The Rosewood Guangzhou will occupy the top 16 floors of Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, the city’s tallest building, when both the building and the 251-room hotel open in 2017.

The building will also include 355 Rosewood-branded luxury residences and reportedly will be home to the world’s fastest high-speed elevators, which will travel at a top speed of 66 feet per second, or about 45 miles per hour.

That's damned fast!

^Malaysia and Indonesia have some solid looking proposals to land them in the top 10 list(Warisan Merdeka-680m,Jakarta Signature Tower-638m)

Anyway, this tower is just about topped out.

Now I'm not trying to be a downer or offensive towards China but in my personal opinion I dont think these new Chinese skylines look very good. IMHO they look too confusing and mix-matched as though the eye doesn't know what to look at and I believe this is due to the lack of towers that are not iconic show stoppers. Now while nearly every skyscraper in Guangzhou is amazing and well thought out I think it detracts from the skyline to have them so densely packed together,Hong Kong does a good job of creating center pieces on their skyline and I dont think you have to sacrifice quality designs to achieve a balanced skyline but I do think you should think more about the form of the towers and their relationship to each other. There's too many different shapes in one area, i would like to see China embrace the box a bit more and place them in between all these beauties to give them a little more balance and aesthetic symmetry.

trust me, Guangzhou, and China has embraced the box. The different CBDs have more eyecatching candy, but the rest is blah

The building doesn't look silver as shown in renderings. What gives?

I think that is a good skyline picture. I'm curious though as to why they insist on building tower-in-the-park type developments.
