PORTLAND, Oregon | January 2009 Part 2 (People, Bridges, Streets, etc)

Here’s part 2 of Portland in January. (Link to Part 1 – photos of views, bikes, protests, etc). There are lots of photos here (over 100... some pretty small, but still). Hopefully you don't have to refresh too much.

Any & all comments are always appreciated (but I’ll admit, I appreciate the positive more than the negative ). Enjoy…

The end

Love how you piece together your fantastic shots. You just keep getting better and better with your work. I may be out there this summer and looking forward to it, I was last there in 1999 and need to get back.

I, too, love how you did a mosaic "thing" piecing your pics together! Very nice. Loved the shots, looks, and activity happening in PDX. Keep up the good work!

Another great thread. One thing ive always loved about Oregon is the way the fog creeps along the hills and mountains. The buildings only add to the beauty. Ill have to see if i can get around and take a few pics on Sunday when i go up to watch my Trailblazers!

ForAteOh, you really did a great job capturing the urban side to our wonderful city. I have tried many times to capture the beauty of central Portland as you have done and haven't even come close to your success. Keep up the fantastic work!

I'm glad you're getting more people photos. They're a dynamic & unique aspect of this city. You're work is undoubtedly improving ten fold & it was great from the start. Well done.

Damn, this thread/your pictures of Portland are awesome. It looks like one of the most urban cities in the country through your lens (and it may be anyway).

d00d yr thread sux...

jk.

I really love your use of the telephoto to amplify lines and patterns in the urban environment. There is something very artistic about it, especially with the people dropped in to the scene.

Though a couple pix I thought you'd raided my hard drive:

ok, not exact replicas, but close enough. Sorry to show you up with the higher res ;o

Nice looking city, except for all the hobos and those ugly bright colored houses. (that look totally out of place)

Maybe we should take a field trip to Chicago to see how to clean up our streets.

If you don't like those colored houses you should never go to SE Portland then.. you'd be surrounded

However, I will say that Pdx has an effort underway to wipe out homelessness in the next 10 years entirely.

Thanks for the comments, everyone!

hymalaia - Wow, that's weird that we have so many similar shots...

oh, that's ok...

Now what?!?!!? (that might have been more impressive if I had used a smaller aperture)

They're not ugly bright colored houses, they're "Charming Victorian Homes." Didn't you read the sign? Out of curiosity, though, how can you tell from the photo whether they look out of place? ... unless they don't belong next to a street.

oh so you want to play this game?

the haze of that morning really shows through here; I don't know how much a smaller aperture would help sans a tripod (which I'm always too lazy to use unless I must).

as for the houses, it's true that they look a bit out of place in relation to the rest of NW, which has a more subdued, northeast urban feel to it. They'd be more at home in SE where garish colors are more the norm and the architectural vibe is more typical of the west coast.
