Wacker Drive office development along Chicago River lands $665 million in construction financing

"Wacker Drive’s next trophy office tower has taken a key step toward reality, with its developers securing almost $665 million in construction financing.

Howard Hughes Corp. and Riverside Investment & Development on Monday said they have a $495 million construction loan from a group of lenders led by Bank of America and JPMorgan Chase to build a 53-story office tower at 110 N. Wacker Drive."

We have piles and sheet piles in the dirt, that counts as foundation work. Bananas?

Yes new - not sure why they use H piles and boards in some cases, and sheet piles in others.

Gonna go ahead and assume the reasoning for soldier pile wall along Wacker Drive is because Wacker Drive overlaps over the site and because of that they couldn't use a sheet pile driver the install sheets thus the use for a low headroom kelly bar drill to drill holes for the H piles. nobody messes with the bridges - easier to cut out part of your wall.

Slant capable - apparently putting in whatever the cables tie off to.

Preparing runs

Stubby rig for low clearance - put in the H-Piles under the edge of Wacker

Working on the wall

Tightening and filling

Tied off (hose clipped off)

The land side - the angled brace is tied off to something the slant drill put in, the sheet piles have been welded to the brace.

Tiebacks (the cables) are installed into grout and then post-tensioned once the grout sets. I guess they're replacing the battered piles that are currently supporting the sheet piles. Gonna assume that the 2 tiebacks in picture 5 combined with a waler will replace the 4 piles in between them allowing them to put a caisson there (repeated multiple times for the caissons that will be adjacent to the sheets?)? Since I guess tiebacks are stronger than the piles.

Maybe the next thing that's gonna go on is grouting (the yellow tank and the other small drill rig with the lattice section seen in Solar's pics). Idk what for but if I had to guess its to prevent settling of Wacker Drive when they excavate.

That's just what I observe, I'm not privy to any of the info for what Hayward Baker's scope of work is.
