Atlanta legislator files bill to annex Braves Cobb stadium into city

http://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/m...-to-annex.html

Quote:
Sen. Horacena Tate (D-Atlanta) has filed a bill in the Georgia General Assembly seeking to extend the city limits of Atlanta north to include the 60-acre Cobb County tract where the Braves are building a new $672 million stadium and $400 million mixed-use development.
Senate Bill 96, filed Tuesday, proposes extending the city limits along Interstate 75, the Marietta Daily Journal is reporting.

Is it just me, or does this thing look EXACTLY like Turner Field, except the new design incorporates more crappy stucco for some inexplicable reason.

It also looks like the axed the new big reflecting pool / water feature, which was about the only thing I considered to be an improvement over Turner Field.

Has anyone noticed all the construction going on at I-75 and I-285 near the site of the new Braves stadium? I have searched all over and cannot find any renderings of the final interchange and how it will interface with SunTrust Park and the surrounding mixed use development.

Does anyone have any drawings or anything? It's crazy how you can find info on just about any other project but this one is completely dark. Either that, or I am just not good at searching these things.

That has nothing to do with the stadium. That construction is for separated express toll lanes that go from 285 all the way up 75 and also up 575 to sixes road I believe.

No rendering but there is a concept video.

I think that's concrete, not stucco... but anyway, I think it's just you, because that doesn't look anything like Turner Field to me

That is definitely a shame. We could use some more water around here.

I agree. It only 'resembles' Turner Field in the overall concept. The seating bowl is much nicer - closer to the field. The overall 'shape' is similar but the details and overall venue are quite different. As bitter as I am towards the Braves, they're doing something really nice. ....if MARTA trains went there, I go to many games. as is, probably one just to check out the new stadium

Wow, I can't believe they wouldn't incorporate longer-term interchange fixes like the half-built flyover from I-75N to I-285W or more relief valves for the braves complex, especially since they're fixing the Atlanta Rd. bridge and doing the express lanes. Seems like it would have made sense to do the whole thing the right way at once.

Does anyone know if there are plans for further development of the interchange for non-express lane traffic? I have seen the DOT listing, but wondering how "real" it is, i.e. where it falls on the priority list.
