Driving down to NYC with my kids this weekend - anxious to see 1WTC and all the progress they've made since last year. My husband's honored to be one of the ironworkers working at the top of 1WTC! My kids were glued to the tv watching the first 2 episodes of the Discovery Channel series on the tower - caught a glimpse of my husband and now our 9yr old asked me to take a picture for her school collage We live about 8hrs from the city and with strict rules about no cameras allowed on site, I enjoy seeing all the pictures posted.

is that just for the construction sites (inside the towers)?... when the memorial opens, will you be allowed to take photos from within the park?

I would think photos would be allowed. The construction workers have rules to follow - no cameras and no smoking are 2 of them.

The new One WTC is a cool mix between old and new. The new antenna will kind of remind me of the Empire State building, but also the old North Tower. Will it actually turn, rotate? Cant believe it has almost been 10 years!

Article about the ironworkers working at the top of 1WTC in NY Times Magazine.

'Steelworkers of the Sky' by Randy Kennedy published Sept 1, 2011

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/04/us...onworkers.html

My husband was one of the ironworkers interviewed.

Great Article

Great Article from Architectural Record:

"A Controversial Tower at Ground Zero"
By Joann Gonchar, AIA

http://archrecord.construction.com/p...ade-Center.asp

"There is no denying that One World Trade Center (WTC), the 104-story tower now rising at the northern end of the Ground Zero site, is a tremendously ambitious commercial real estate venture..."

Although the article title suggests otherwise, it says pretty much nothing about any controversy.

Interesting description of the new base, however:

"However, after discovering that tempering caused the panels to bow, interfering with the laminating process, the project team devised another solution. The alternate, which sources describe as glass fins projecting from the facade at various angles, is now in the bidding phase but has yet to be finalized."

Lots of construction and structural details I really haven't seen anywhere else, including this and other detailed drawings:
The drawing is from SOM but I got it off of Architecture Record's website, same link as above.

Glass

So what floor are we on now? When is the base going to be cladded? Why hasn't tower 4 began the setback? and is tower2 going to be built to street level and thats it?

1) Floor 74.

2) The base can't be clad with glass yet, because the glass company canceled, and they need to find a new company.

3) Tower 4 still needs to go higher to get to the setback.

4) Tower 2 will be built to street level until someone rents space in the building.
