“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
— Eleanor Roosevelt
Jack's Urban Meeting Place — or JUMP as it's quickly becoming known — is a celebration of creativity and inspiration. It will be a place for the community to participate in a kaleidoscope of ever-changing activities, events, and programs.

JUMP will house 10 working studios, including those for arts, crafts, industrial, multimedia, kitchen, and other creative pursuits. The seven-acre site will also have civic event and meeting spaces, a dynamic plaza, and a 650-seat outdoor amphitheater.

JUMP is a project of the Simplot Family Foundation. The downtown Boise development will begin construction in 2010 and take approximately two years to complete.

More news in this weeks Boise Weekly------a few points form the article are copied below.

http://www.boiseweekly.com/boise/sta...nt?oid=1483236

On a recent January morning, a group of volunteers gathered outside of Knock 'Em Dead Dinner Theater's former home on Ninth and Broad streets. Current cast members, season ticket holders and executive board members hoisted furniture, costumes and props into a fleet of vehicles before departing for the nonprofit theater's new location in the aging Parkcenter Mall.

Jack's Urban Meeting Place, or JUMP, is the Simplot family's proposed park/art studio space/concert facility/tractor museum/J.R. Simplot corporation headquarters/playland that will occupy four-blocks west of BODO--property that includes the buildings that formerly housed both the Emerald Club and Knock 'Em Dead. Though J.R. Simplot Company spokesman David Cuoio said they're still hammering out details, working with ACHD on permits before heading back to the city's design review board, things are progressing with considerable speed. They hope to break ground in late summer, said Cuoio, and if everything goes according to plan, JUMP will be up and hopping 24 to 30 months later. But before any of this can happen, the buildings that housed KED and the Emerald Club--now silent spaces that once rang out with Evita and Madonna--must first be bulldozed.

"I suspect a lot of people are expecting massive impressive demolitions like they've seen in Las Vegas. That's not going to be the case; it's going to be pretty low-key," said Cuoio. "I don't know exactly what the process is, but it's not going to be anything dramatic, and I think we anticipate that happening sometime later this month or early in March. It's fairly soon."

Ok it's spring now...

Are they going to break ground yet on this project?

The buildings to be torn down have been vacated so hopefully it starts soon, there has not been anything in the news the past few weeks.

This is from the website:

There will be much more to come as we create programs for the community, build our physical structure, and launch a permanent website.

So go ahead and jump right in — if you've got something to say, we'd like to hear from you.

Thanks Cotton... Have they come to the ideal of the overall building design yet?

Well if they would have followed my earlier advice they would have started on this project sooner when prices were dirt cheap. Now that the economy is rebounding, prices are going up fast..

You snooze you loose...

New Idea

At the rate they are going I propose they throw all the planning out the window and add 25K seats to Bronco Stadium. Who need a tractor museum in there downtown anyway.

Hmmm...It looks like they might have made it a little bigger again on the east side along 9th. The headquarters on Front appear to extend all the way to 11th now also.

Why not just keep the simplot headquarters out of this location and build a 25-30 story bldg at the boise tower site? don't like the fact that Idaho's biggest and best company would be in this kind of structure. Still, anybody know when groundbreaking will actually take place and how tall the structures will be? I just cannot stand another project delay due to "poor economic conditions." LETS GET THIS THING GOING!!

Who knows with the parking garages. I would guess about 50-75 feet with the stilts.

For the new Simplot HQ, I counted approx. 11 floors. At 16'(roughly the average floor height for the Banner Bank Center which is the most recent office development in DT) it sits at 176' with out the stilts, and 201' with. That would place it as the third tallest in the city, being 5 feet taller than the Grove Hotel. Not bad, imo.

Hopefully soon, all of the current buildings along 9th have been vacated for demolition. After reading the current article I posted the link to I would imagine this, (Brownfields/environmental issues) is impacting the "breaking ground" date because of working with the DEQ. You might remember that similar issues delayed ground breaking for BoDo for a few months while environmental issues were being taken care of.

from the article:
Previously, the JUMP project site was a rail yard, with bulk terminals and other industries the DEQ suspected may have released contaminants. In addition, the agency was aware of a ubiquitous tetrachloroethylene, or perc, plume beneath parts of downtown Boise that has no traceable source. The DEQ was concerned that JUMP construction activities would disturb the plume and that after the site was developed, vapor intrusion of perc would negatively impact JUMP structures. After discussing these issues with the Simplots, the DEQ agreed to fund the site investigation.

JUMP update

I caught an interview with Simplot family spokesman David Cuoio on KBSU yesterday. He said demolition won't start until this summer. He also said that discussions on the Simplot Company headquarters are "ongoing" and that the construction costs for the downsized project will be "south of 100 million". You can listen to the whole interview here:

Thanks for the update. Maybe the few months delay has something to do with the DEQ.?.
