So knowledgeable, such great info. Please post with more regularity.
I wholeheartedly agree and would encourage them to post more often. It seems Arch + Eng has a lot of insider knowledge too

Underneath the sidewalks on Market?

What's up with those hollow spaces underneath the wide sidewalks on Market Street?

Wouldn't it be neat if they reopened the subway store fronts for this development? Stick some news stands or quick shops right at the entrance of "Jefferson Station" underground like they have in NYC...or even actual access to whatever store they might put on that corner? They have both types of things in NYC and used to have them all along market east in philly.

Not sure, but might be venting for the "El" subway line. There may be vents that are not see in the photos that then vents up through the sidewalk once they rebuild it. In some areas they also leave cavities for utility work and access though that seems too big for just that.

Cheers,
G.

Please tell me you guys kept that and are planning on installing it in the project somewhere ... Shouldn't be too expensive and would be a nice gesture to the history of the site.

I really believe that if this project turns out well (design, etc) - it could be one of philadelphia's landmark projects over the past 50 years. It's taking something in such a prime location that was SO bad - to something potentially so good.

I agree. Having just spent almost a full week shooting at and around the Convention Center and having to spend a ton of time in that area (something most residents rarely do), it's just not...very nice. It has the under-invested, slightly dirty vibe to it. Honestly, as terrible looking as that new Zuritsky Roach Motel is at 11th and Arch - it does feel clean and new, adds some nice retail, and is a big net positive from a streetscape standpoint. That said, this complex is directly across the street from the Convention Center front door, and caty-corner to the city's largest hotel (which mostly serves conventions and the Old City tourist business).

For tourists, I can't imagine a starker first impression contrast between the old, depressing Snellenbergers shell and this brightly lit, TimesSquare-style, big, new complex.
