^ that's awesome, if the tower is a bit boring - in the render anyway.

I drive by that hole almost daily...

We should see a few more refinements in terms of design now that the project is more of less approved.

Can't wait for it to start... it looks like it will tie in nicely with the Hudson (walk & market).

YYJ has had another great month - September traffic up 6.3% to 139,193. After a record setting August Passenger traffic was up 7.3% for the 3rd quarter 2014. YTD PAX (Jan-Sep) is 1.244 million.

I imagine YWH (Harbour airport) would be close to 200k to date - can't find stats past 2011 and not sure they include Helijet (heliport traffic) as well ??

Why was the taller proposal shot down and replaced by this model of architectural yawnsville? It can't be Victoria's acrophobic City Council since there's an 11 story building on the same block.

A peak at what is being worked on for the Roundhouse development. I think this is by DIALOG architects. Don't know how final this is though.

Plan for two towers on Douglas St. gets enthusiastic approval
http://www.timescolonist.com/busines....8jGtO7jj.dpuf

Feb 14, 2015

Quote:
Development of two office towers across from Victoria city hall on Douglas Street will make the city a happier place, says Victoria’s mayor.

Lisa Helps cited the book Happy City by Charles Montgomery in describing what the new building means to Victoria.

“What he says is the very way that we build cities can make people happy and I think this development strikes that chord. This development will contribute to the happiness factor of people downtown. It’s more than a building. It’s a live interface with the public realm.”

Victoria councillors unanimously approved the proposal by Jawl Enterprises, to build the two towers of six and 13 storeys, following a public hearing. Not only was there no opposition, but the only presentation made to council other than the developer’s was by Ian Sutherland, chairman of the Downtown Residents Committee land-use committee, who spoke in favour.

“The future has arrived,” Helps said. “This is the kind of building that is a 21st- century building — not just the building, but the public realm. [There’s] a high-quality separated bicycle track, built by a private developer. There’s spaces for kids, spaces for people. If you’re standing inside the building looking out, you see a perfectly framed view of city hall’s clock tower. It’s an amazing development and I think it speaks so strongly to the future of our downtown.”

Update on Royal Bay in Colwood:

The secondary school looks like it is on track for a September opening and the project homebuilder - http://gablecrafthomes.ca - has been selected by the developer/owner.

The first 90 residential lots are to start construction within the next few months.

Some good updates on here. Victoria is the biggest sleeper on this forum. Nobody discusses about it or rarely mentions it, yet it keeps developing at a good pace.

Another tower proposed along Yates. Yay. Not a spectacular proposal, but decent nonetheless. 18 storeys is a good height along here...a human scale

18-storey condo tower pitched for Harris Green

T-C Feb 20, 2015
http://www.timescolonist.com/busines...reen-1.1769239

Quote:
A proposal to build a $25-million, 18-storey condominium in the 900-block of Yates Street will go to public hearing.

Alpha Project Developments plans to build the strata residential units above street level commercial at 960-962 Yates near Vancouver Street, site of the former Philip Nyren Men’s Wear store in the Harris Green neighbourhood. The top floor will provide housing for the building’s mechanical and elevator equipment.

Victoria councillors unanimously agreed Thursday to forward the proposal to public hearing and to have it reviewed by the city’s Advisory Design Panel.

The tower would have 88 suites — eight small one bedroom units, four small two-bedroom units, 22 one bedroom/one bath, 44 two bedroom/two bath, eight sub penthouse suites and two penthouse suites. Two commercial units are proposed at ground level.

The unit sizes range from 505 to 1,550 square feet, said Bijan Neyestani, president of Alpha Project Developments. “So there’s a wide range of unit types and choices.”
