Interesting story, odinthor. So it was just a doorbell that looked like a dynamite plunger-do-hicky?

ummmmm. . . .no comment.

Currently listed on eBay.

"1960's Amateur 35mm Slide Los Angeles, Ca - Street View"

The eBay seller failed to mention the Richfield Building - the slide's best selling point.

eBay

And this was taken from _________ Street. ,,(I haven't taken the time to figure it out)..yet.

Afterthought:

I've always been intrigued by this slender part (for lack of a better word) that arches over the vast void below it.

What was in this area?....Was it simply a multi-storied walkway? ... As I said above, it's quite narrow.

Have I asked this question before? If I have, I don't remember the answer.

Maybe the Richfield Building was the forerunner of the viral dress phenomenon from a few years ago - was it black and gold or blue and white?

Here's an intriguing albumin cabinet card.

Seller's description:..."Vintage Cabinet Card Mrs. Pelz and school children in Los Angeles, California"

eBay

As you can see the children are waving around some kind of cards. (report cards?)

I'm especially intrigued by the large building behind them. It doesn't necessarily look like a school. It almost looks like an old mission or church. (and as you can see a window has been added)
Also notice that not all of the children are school aged.

There is some mysterious writing on the back.

Where to start?

Could the children be on a field trip? I ask because the middle word in the top line might be Ostriches Land. As most of you know Los Angeles had a famous Ostrich Farm at the turn of the last century.

I'm completely stumped by the first word...Is it EILSUM?

Lastly, there are 'ghost' words as well. At the top edge of the card & extra-large writing below.

Go forth, loyal minions.

Clues to this antique photo

Osterfriesland is in the northwest corner of Germany. Here's a travel article that discusses this region. This article may contain clues. http://followbenandjenna.com/off-the...isian-islands/

Elisum is one of the villiages in Krummhorn, Germany. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krummh%C3%B6rn

So, we may be looking at children of German immigrants from these regions, possibly at a Kindergarden.

nealberke's first link mentions visiting a kindergarten in Germany, and I think that's what might be happening here. The building looks very like the Eilsumer Kirche (Eilsum Church). The arches and windows are a close fit to e_r's picture, but if I'm right, I think that the photo would have to have been taken roughly in the middle of the side of the church before the lower window was added (and I've no proof that it was added after the others).

I'm amazed you found the building since it is GERMANY... Thanks nealberke & HossC.

Here's today's mystery location. (I promise you it's not Germany)

Seller's description:.."Original Slide, SP Southern Pacific EMD SD39 #5312 at Los Angeles, 1971"

eBay

I believe there are enough clues for one of you geniuses to figure out the location.

P.S. I could be wrong but I believe the smallish white building might be a Legion Post.

Yet another mystery location.

I happened upon this PHENOMENAL cabinet card on eBay about five days ago. The seller didn't denote the location but the seller's other photographs were mostly of Los Angeles
so I thought this one might be as well.

eBay

I love the large star above the entrance!

AND there are names on back!

2005 N San Fernando Rd

In the 1971 photo above, the light green building, Eastern Novelty Distributors, Inc. 'the Imperial line' (specializing in billiard table slate and accessories) is located at 2005 N San Fernando Rd. Eastern Novelty is a division of H. Betti Industries. Structure with the tan roof and white trim is the American Fence Co at 1941 N San Fernando Rd. Photographer was standing on a footbridge over N San Fernando Rd at the Southern Pacific Taylor Yard. Buildings are still standing but privacy vegetation hides the street view.

I like the following three photos that were on Martin Turnbull's website recently. Nice look at Palm trees past and present on Avenue of the Palms, which is now "Stadium Way" as it travels alongside Dodger Stadium.
The first is circa 1920s, the second 1937 and the third Feb. 2023.

Maybe S. Tracy (or Tray) Reid?? The writer has big, long crosses atop their "T"'s. That "S" does not look like their other capital "S"
