I'm trying to find some good development news, and this is all I got. The first crane is going up two or three days earlier than previous planned. Yay?!

That photo kind of shows what I was talking about. Those guys are covered head to toe with clothes, have helmets and gloves on, and are in the open fresh air. The only vector points would be getting drinks and restroom breaks.

Or breathing...literally the only way that counts. I don't see any of them wearing masks (which they shouldn't be because they all should be going to healthcare professionals). This virus is spread by aerosolized droplets from your breath, not contact. Gloves and clothing aren't doing much. And heavy breathing (like when you do contruction work) makes it worse.

To be honest, it's a little depressing that we are willing to put people at risk so that we can get our fix of skyline progress. It reminds me of when society was ok with only 96 people dying to make the Hoover Dam or something like that. How many of those people in those photos (and the healthcare workers that have to take care of them) are you willing to see die just so you can continue to see progress?

Thanks for talking some sense, but it appears majority on this forum side with developer and want the construction to continue.

How is 44 East still even working with commercial construction on pause? Are they using the affordable housing loop hole or do they consider themselves critical infrastructure? Either way it’s a condominium tower for the rich, that’s being built on the health expense of the working man

The aeresolized risk is primarily in health care facilities where it occurs at a higher concentration (from what I understood, I'm obviously not a pro). The aerosolized risk
to people working outdoors is probably pretty low.

The city gave this project the OK to continue construction because of onsite affordable units. Some project(s) have been given the OK to continue until 03/30.

Oh, don't worry, I'm not in favor of putting people at risk, and do I wish they would stop work, I'm just pointing out the risk points and less risky ones.

I've been reading about the virus since the first week of January, and I have a vested reason for not wanting people to be at risk. My sister has cancer and was in the hospital last month. She's going for three days of chemo starting Monday for her second round of treatments.

I was just saying that I feel safer outdoors even if I am encountering people than indoors. The last time I was in a grocery store over a week ago, I was holding my breath the whole time.

Thanks for looking out for the worker, if these places are to continue on then at a minimum they need to be afforded paid sick leave and have the ability to move slower to ensure at least six feet between them and more time for bathroom breaks and washing of face and hands.
Unfortunately, paid sick leave isn't going to happen (because America) so its going to spread at each of these sites therfore putting all others on site at risk as well as all of the families (or whoever they come into contact with) of the workers as well.

This may be from yesterday. The crane installation that was postponed two weekends ago, hasn't yet been rescheduled according to the permit.

It looks like this permit has expired. I'd imagine they are ready for these cranes to go up any day now though.

I don't know what's up with their cranes. They never rescheduled the right of away closures after the original installation was rained out. There could have also been a virus related delay for the crane delivery as well. But on 04/28 they refiled the license agreement permit for the cranes with the city. A right of way closure permit for the installation dates is usually filed a short time after the license agreement is filed.

This is from today apparently. It's going fairly slow for a project with no underground levels.

They can't speed things up too much using only Tonka Toys for equipment.

Ha. You're right, they'll need more than that to make much more progress.
