If you click the link, it lists 107 US cities with a population of 200,000 or greater.

And, Jersey City is #2 if you look at the complete US list by walk score. And Newark, NJ has a higher walk score than Philadelphia.

Nashville and Charlotte are obviously rather sprawly, at least relative to most other big cities, but they're still big cities, each of which have sizable swaths of real urbanity within their borders, so to place them below actual post-war suburbs like Chandler, AZ and North Las Vegas, NV that are literally nothing but suburban sprawl is absolutely laughable.

There are many self-sustainable neighborhoods in Charlotte where one can live without needing a car. Most people drive to some of the area's great parks to run, bike or enjoy the scenery. On the other hand, there are neighborhoods that are dangerous and I would never venture through on foot after dark. But, people here do love cars, large lots on estates and the good life.

You also have to remember that these numbers are the average Walkscores of the entire city. This gives San Francisco and Boston a major advantage, as they lack any significant suburban stretches (as, for example, New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago have).

Inclement weather interrupts the entire city irregularly; hills are obstinate natural features.
