The West Campus skyline is really starting to take shape. Every time I drive up Guadalupe to MLK and look over to the left at the turn Im amazed. It's like a totally different city.

Because it was too difficult too build it one inch away? At least it covers up the ugliest side of Callaway House.

Looks like the back side of University House will have windows as well. Beats having a blank ugly wall that we all thought was going to be.

omg, THIS building makes the Tours Aillard (Social Housing in Nanterre, outside of Paris) considered by many to be the ugliest buildings in the world, look gorgeous! Drag rats could only be an improvement to a place as ugly as this is! I think that they, themselves, might be scared away by this monstrosity!

I'll be honest and say not sure I see it. I don't think this is the top 5 worst buildings U/C in Austin, let alone the world.

I like the place, but the model is relatively ugly compared to the rendering.

You're probably right. The model makes the concrete slab on top of the podium look sterile and uninviting. I guess I just remember how pleasant walking around the West Campus used to be, with all the old houses and lots of trees, when I went to UT. I lived, with a couple of roommates, on the second floor of an old house on Longview, and we knew lots of people in the neighborhood, and the new density of West Campus just doesn't allow for a lot of greenery and backyard barbeques, and that old neighborhood feeling.
On the other hand, Pease Park will always be over there, and that's a pleasant place to spend some times outdoors and for students to relax on a nice day.

Look at the color of the trees. They're same as the building, along with everything else associated with the project. I'm sure it's just the material they're using for the model that brings about the ick factor. i think it'll look nicer in real life. It does have the chance to be a truly unique building, depending on what the colors are. Making those boxes around the windows some kind of bold primary color like say fire engine red would really be something.

Those boxes around the windows are window warts. Like a hideous tie to draw your attention away from a hideous shirt.

Or those trees are "art" like the dead tree that they had in Lady Bird Lake next to the Pfluger Bridge for a while...

Or it's a preview of what all our trees are going to look like if this drought doesn't let up.
