Where else would you put it? Very typical for any building with below grade parking. Just install crane foundation whenever it’s time to install the building foundation. 5th & West, Block 71, new Marriott on Cesar Chavez, 500 W.2nd St to name a few developed with the same technique

This is going to ruin the view from the Westin.

The last time I tried to get into the Westin to take a forumer from out of town up there, we couldn't get access to the elevators to visit the pool deck. I was bummed out about it. I know you could get up there at one time. I've been up there at least a couple of times.

I haven't been there in awhile, but I think you can ask for a free pass at the front desk.

speaking of the Westin, I've got a friend who recently stayed one night, (Sat) who made a point to say that she was not bothered and never really heard 6th street. She also mentioned that she is a light sleeper.

Great photo! Really highlights just how out of place the Railyard Condos have become.

Nice shot. That's the view from the Presidential Suite at the Hilton, FWIW.

And I was thinking that the lowrise Railyard buildings made an interesting contrast with the surrounding new buildings. I think we might miss them when they are gone. I know the residents of the apartment block to the south will miss them when they lose their view or end up looking down on the roof of an expanded convention center.

I really like that photo. I'm just wondering why I never realized how shitty the Westin looks until now. I do think the Railyard buildings look kind of cool where they are. They don't bother me now that they are surrounded by taller structures. Like a tiny Alpine village nestled in a valley amonst the hills and mountains. They even looked like they have snow covered roofs. Besides, without them we would probably end up with another boring tallish rectangle.

I agree about the Westin. It’s looking more and more piddly as stuff fills in around it.

Not nearly as piddly as the Courtyard by Marriott which would look much more at home on Ben White near Riverside.

The Courtyard would be the 5th tallest building outside of Greater Downtown and the Domain. Pinnacle, Tower Of The Hills, Southpark One, and Southfield are taller.

So it probably fits downtown, but we could definitely use some buildings of that height scattered around the city.

I was talking more about aesthetics than height. It looks like it belongs on an access road near an airport.
