WSV has been closed for months, since the summer. I feel like there is a fitness clothing store there currently.

St. John's is no longer listed as a location on the works' website. So the rumour is probably correct.

Related -- Relish just closed their Saint John, NB location (with claims of opening a second Halifax location)... The Works Halifax didn't last long either. I just don't think the burger speciality restaurants really work.

Also! Burrito Jax said on their twitter account that they are planning on opening in St. John's this year! Excellent news!

EDIT: Apparently it's not closing. It's closed. Already off the website listing and everything. BOOM, done, gone.
Funny how everyone was saying Relish would be dead after this place moved into town. I hate to see any business close, but I must say I was never overly impressed with The Works. The decor was tacky and the burgers were mediocre at best. Personally, I think Relish burgers are better. Hopefully the space won't stay vacant for too long. Maybe a good location for Legros and Motti....?

I'm pretty sure that building is cursed, it seems like nothing can succeed there. Mexi Cali Rosas tried twice but failed, now the Works and probably others I can't remember. It seems to be in a great location, hopefully the next tenant will buck the trend.

I think Mexi Cali Rosas did good the first time, It seemed like they were there for a while. I believe the downtown restaurant scene might be coming too saturated....

You might be right about that, to a point. That block of George St. seems to be just that much removed from the regular restaurant/bar scene that the foot traffic is greatly reduced.

I actually liked The Works, but maybe that was because it was never very busy and you could always get a table...hmmm, don't suppose that's why it closed....duh!

I think the Works would have benefited from being open late, much like Jungle Jims. How many people would want a sloppy burger at 3am after a long night of drinking? Probably lots.

Maybe that's where the downsized Legros & Motti is going.

I doubt it. The decision by Biancas to close seems to have happened quite suddenly as people were booking it only days ago for weddings. It seems like Legros and Motti already have a decision made on where they are going. I've heard they're going into Water Street Variety.

I also read (can't remember the source) that the owners, who are originally from Bulgaria, had a sudden death in the family and that factored in their decision. I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Just heard a rumour that Raymonds is looking to open a less expensive restaurant in the old Press & Bean/Bank building.

Funny thing, when I heard Jeremy Bonia on the CBC news last night talking about Bianca's the thought crossed my mind that it might be a good opportunity for Raymonds to open a "scaled down" version in that location. Either or should be a good opportunity for something less high end than Raymonds. I hope it happens....somewhere.

This is true! It's target theme is to go back to the old roots of a traditional merchant/ fisherman pub. Perfect Day is doing their graphic design and such.

When I dined at the Keg on February 1st, I was told that they (The Keg) would be taking the Legros & Motti space and that Kelsey's was the contender for the current Keg space.

The latest buzz I heard is that they are relocating to that restaurant space in 351 Water.
