Take a look at this interesting building.

It doesn't look like a sub-station to me. It 'almost' looks like a country school (the upper half, anyway). It also reminds me, somewhat, of an old carriage house.
In the distance, on the right, there appears to be a rather tall house. (or perhaps it's some other type of building)

The seller was impressed enough with the building that he decided to take this second slide.

The smaller building on the left was partially hidden by a tree, and out of the frame, in the first slide. You can see the roof of a small house beyond the small building.
There is another house(?) in the trees on the right - - >

The seller also included this additional information. She (I think it's a she) pretty much pinpointed the location for us.

I saved all this before the ad was taken down.

Soooooo...I checked out the Grace & Hillcrest location. [shown below]

Google_Earth

I didn't expect to find the building (although that would have been great!), but I thought there might be some clues.

I didn't find any.

So now it's up to you sleuths.

PE never had an Inglewood Substation, e-r. LARy/LATL did have a substation which served its 5 Line, but it was located a short distance away within the grounds of the Inglewood Park Cemetery along Florence Ave.

I searched for 'Lindburg' in the city directories. I found a 'Lindburg' that lived in Inglewood but he worked in a match factory.

I also tried to find information on wild west shows that toured the Los Angeles area in the 1910s. ....Came up empty.

Still searching.

You did say it reminded you of an old carriage house so I wonder if that's "Old Ingle", the carriage horse, in the adjacent paddock.

Initially, I thought the smoke was emanating from somewhere in the far distance, but if you look closely it's rising from behind that row of trees.

Hi, I'm new to the forum. Six months ago someone sent me a link to Noirish LA with the comment, "a rabbit hole...". Indeed, after jumping around a few random pages I went to page 1 and started reading in earnest. I caught up to the current page about a week ago. The sleuthing exhibited here is positively breath-taking. I developed a love for film noir in film school and a love for Craftsman houses with the purchase of my own in the mid 1990s. I live in Eagle Rock and my hope is to find a photo of my house when it was relatively new. Although I have read over the entire thread, remembering it all and where I read it is impossible. Can anyone tell me if there is a search function specific to the thread?

The search method I use is via Google. In your regular Google search box, type:

4x5 Glass Negative: Dated July 12, 1903 .. 11:00 A.M.

The scene is overly familiar...but I'm prettty sure we haven't seen exact image before. (I could be wrong)

(I thought I asked this before, but I just did a search for Vibiana, and came up with nothing...)

This photo is from approximately 1899, and looks over downtown, facing south, from the direction
of Fort Hill. I have highlighted St. Vibiana.

Besides St. Vibiana, are ANY of the other buildings in the photo still standing?

At the right edge of the photo, to the right of St. Vibiana's, we see the Second Street side of the five-story Wilcox Building
at the SE corner of Second and Spring. The Wilcox Building -- or at least ~20% of it -- is still standing:
