Downtown Adj. - University Of Utah - Lassonde Center Dedication

Billions of dollars have been invested these past six years on a long list of new developments at Salt Lake City's University of Utah. The Lassonde Studios building
is but the most recent project completed in a long list of stunning contemporary spaces. Dedicated (Sept. 22nd), students have been in the building since August 19.
Here are some photos of the interior and exterior from the Lassonde website:

Utah is Nations fastest growing State

Deseret News, Daphne Chen

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...ing-state.html

...When a friend told Michael Webster about the booming tech sector in Utah, he decided to apply to a few companies.
By July, he had secured a job at Instructure, a software company in Cottonwood Heights, and the Websters moved to Utah.

They are part of a wave of people who moved to Utah within the last year, pushing the population past the 3 million mark
and making the Beehive State the fastest-growing state in the nation.

According to U.S. Census Bureau estimates released Tuesday, Utah's population grew by 2.03 percent from July 2015 to July 2016.

The fastest-growing states after Utah are Nevada (1.95 percent), Idaho (1.83 percent), Florida (1.82 percent) and Washington (1.78 percent)...

Downtown Adj.- Update, Trolley Square District

Isaac Riddle Reports - Full Article @ http://www.buildingsaltlake.com/deve...quare-project/

Rendering of proposed Trolley Square residential development.

...After two favorable recommendations from the Salt Lake City Planning Commission on the zoning amendment, the developer is ready to move forward with more detailed plans to replace three single-family homes and a large surface parking lot with a mixed-use development.

...the developer has submitted preliminary site plans for the 3.5-acre parcel on the 600 South block of 700 East. Under the current proposal, the developers plan to build six buildings and possibly relocate one or two of the site’s three historic homes to the south end of the site.

Three of the buildings would front 600 South, with two buildings fronting a midblock street and one building fronting 700 East.

According to planning documents the buildings are designed to complement Trolley Square. The two most prominent buildings are designed after the work of Richard K.A. Kletting, the architect that designed the Utah State Capitol, the Old Saltaire Resort Pavilion and the Utah Exposition Building that once stood where Trolley Square is now...

Commercial development booming Along Salt Lake City Metros

Deseret News - Jason Lee - http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...-counties.html

SALT LAKE CITY — As the state's economy continues to thrive, the volume of office buildings and commercial projects under construction of late along the southern Wasatch Front is at a near record pace — the bulk of which is situated in the heart of Utah's tech hub.

In Utah County, the amount of office space being leased has more than doubled since last year, and nearly twice the amount of 2014, according to data from commercial real estate firm Coldwell Banker Commercial Advisors...

Construction continues on the new Hale Centre Theatre as work begins on the new Mountain America Credit Union Corporate offices in Sandy.

https://www.visitutah.com

Snowbird ski resort in Salt Lake City is one of the top ski resorts in the nation.

Recently, a state agency approved the resort’s expansion plan. New chairlifts, a gondola and a zip line

“We’re very excited about the permit approval from the Utah County Board of Adjustment. The new lifts planned for Mineral Basin and Mary Ellen Gulch
will greatly expand the year-round recreational opportunities at Snowbird,” Bob Bonar, president and CEO of Snowbird, said in a press release.

Downtown Update - North Fourth Apartments

Isaac Riddle Reports - Full Article @ http://www.buildingsaltlake.com/city...sing-projects/

...The North 4th project, on the 300 North block of 500 West, will be the developers’ (Giv Development Group) second affordable housing project in District 3. Giv also developed the North Sixth Apartments just south of North Temple on 600 West. Penfold, who represents District 3 referenced the North Sixth development as the type of project he expects from the developers.

“What I like about Giv, is that they consistently add a mix of affordable units,” said Penfold.

City Council approved a $1.5 million loan from the Housing Trust Fund budget for Giv to refinance and purchase an adjacent parcel for the project’s second phase. The first phase will be six stories with 112 one and two-bedroom apartments, 81 of which will be affordable housing. The project will include 31 market-rate units and the affordable housing units will include a mix of units available for residents earning between 25 and 50 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The second phase of the North 4th project will consist of three mixed-use buildings with a combined total of 124 units, 80 of which will be affordable housing. The second phase will include 16 three-bedroom units, many of which Giv states will be reserved for refugee families, and five units reserved for homeless individuals. Depending on the AMI, rents for the affordable units will be vary between $260 and $600 a month.

Both phases will share amenity space that will be provided in and around a restored historic furniture warehouse building located just behind the site of the first-phase building. The amenities will include a gym, clubhouse, conference room, office space, greenhouse, patio, yard space and bike repair area...
