In this shot, you can see both One Vanderbilt and KPF's office. KPF's office is on 42nd Street, across from Bryant Park. It is the second building from the right, next to the tall building that is right on the corner of 42nd and 5th. So it is super convenient (maybe *too* convenient) for them to watch the building's progress and to get to the site when they have to.

30 Rock is short for 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the RCA/GE/Comcast building, home to NBC studios and the great observation deck...(there was a sitcom of the same name based on snl which is filmed there). The deck is also called Top of the Rock.

Getting close or equal to the Chrysler yet?, from here in Rockaway it looks almost equal in height, but then again it could be distance that is tricking these eyes.

Still 980 feet high

Should pass Chrysler when the crown is nearly 1/3rd up

Great, it's about to reach supertall (300 m, i.e. 984.25 ft) status!

Isn't 111 W 57th Street even faster? Being so skinny probably helps a lot.

When I first started looking at this thread in December it was about the height of that met life building. Man this thing is taking off. It's looking huge at this point, so cool! I love this building because of it's location

^^^ I've lived in NYC for ~20 years and this has probably been the fastest rising supertall I can think of.

Part of this is due to the low floor count since buildings ascend floor by floor

^ Yes, but we've seen towers with less floors take longer to rise.

The location has always made this a little more special for me.

It's been amazing.

Here's a video that I found informative. If you haven't seen it already, it's worth the watch.

These are older renderings, but I'm still anticipating this on the skyline...of course it will have more company than these renderings can show.

One Vanderbilt is the masterpiece of commercial buildings in the current boom. Just like 111 W 57th is the masterpiece of the residential supertalls. I can't think of one that is more impressive (to my eyes).

Especially because of the tapering top and spire it will be a uniquely outstanding iconic presence as the century unfolds. But we still have to see what Tower Fifth and 270 Park will look like, plus I'm sure at least a couple more of comparable height will come up during the 2020s as these make their mark on the skyline of the 21st century New York.

Not only that, but we have to see what the Grand Hyatt tower will look like. That one would stand between the Chrysler and Vanderbilt.
