Heathsville is an unincorporated community on the Northern Neck of Virginia. The community is the seat of Northumberland County. The population is around 150.
Heathsville was founded in 1681 as Northumberland Court House. It was later named for John Heath, a lawyer and politician who was a US Representative for Virginia from 1793 to 1797. The town was actually laid out in 1798 according to a plan by noted architect Henry Benjamin Latrobe. With Northumberland County remaining an agricultural county, growth has always been slow, and Heathsville is still a typical Virginia small courthouse town.
