I hope you are getting out there publicly with this so we know how to blame in a few years when we are stuck in endless auto traffic with no alternatives.

Unlike your farcical 4k vehicles /hour /lane claim, from a study decades ago that has come no closer to fruition in the years since.

Austin has 1M _today_. Actually months ago, with the possibility that growth and relocations have accelerated.

And that's ignoring the entire rest of the metro.

So yes, if you think Austin's growth stopped yesterday (including natural population growth) and the rest of the metro is suddenly going to completely depopulate, your "plan" might work.

The rest of us are planning for a 5M metro and a CoA proper approaching 2M.

And that's before considering the potential for climate change population migration due to climate change later in the century.

you can blame that on city council for years if mis-managing of budgets and policies. if it doesn't pass, its because people dont trust them with the money and/or the rail isn't perceived to benefit them.

that's not a paper, that's an op-ed.

Among other things, that means no peer review.

I've noted about 10 falsehoods just in glancing at it. Just to start:

"Where road expansion is possible, it should be carried out. Where a road expansion is impossible, a second level of roadway should be built as has been done in Kobe, Japan, Chicago in the U.S. and many other places in the world. A second level of roads in Kobe, Japan, is shown in Figure 1. A second floor of traffic lanes on the highway was built in Iran across Tehran as well. Any road can be expanded, and money saved from eliminated rail system subsidies can be used for this expansion."

"Any road can be expanded". This is quite obviously false. You can only go up or down so many levels. We're in the process of going to 3 levels for I35. That's going to be it (or expansion would be so mindboggling expensive we'd never afford it).

It's also amusing (in a sad way) that the highway segment in Israel he calls out as being uncongested is currently Orange in google maps (at almost 7PM local time).

Agreed on the airport station - that looks fantastic. As I noted on the stadium thread, I don't like the soccer balls at McKalla, but otherwise it looks great.

Vote yes on Prop A. Let's get it!

Yep, Airport Station is giving me the feels, too. ABIA is going to be so freaking cool when everything gets connected and expanded and several B$ get slathered all over it. Sigh.

Hehe....

On a more dark note...It seems misinformation has hit Prop A:

https://www.statesman.com/news/20201...-in-final-days

I have a sinking feeling Prop A will fail. If it does fail, Adler should just rent out the airport to fund a portion of this. I feel this will kill or stunt downtown to a level it might not be able to recover from for a very long time.... not to mention the rest of the city!

I couldn't read the full article, but I get the gist of it. Unfortunately, there's not much that we can do other than hope level-headed people can see through the fog.

A sale of the airport isn't a good idea but privatization is. Last August the Atlantic Monthly published a story on this.
Privatizing Airports Is a No-Brainer...Cities should sell their airports to close gaping budget holes.
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2020/08/sell-airports/615331/
The article stresses using the funds to pay off debt but in our case it could be used to promote transportation issues.

Great article! I think this was floated around for ABIA a few years back.

The truth of it is, this is THE plan we need to have come to fruition. I really can't say that enough. I'm really confused with the advertising FOR prop A. Has anyone else noticed how bland it is? I'm curious if they're doing a lot online...?

I've seen stuff on Instagram and Linkedin, as well as links on news articles, etc., but I'm not on Facebook. It's been clean but still somewhat vague. I wish they would have addressed some of the opposition arguments weeks ago, personally, but it doesn't make any sense to put something out this late.
