That works for me. FYI: I think Chase looks good from the louvered side. It must have been an off-month for Pei on this one.

Totally. he's one of my favorite architects but this was not his finest hour.

I like the Chase Tower. It's a slab skyscraper same as the AON Center and the original WTC. The appeal of the Chase Tower for me is that it's 5 sided, which is sort of unusual, and it's just a really tall slabby building in a city with a relatively flat terrain so that it stands out even more so. It just seems to shoot up out of the ground.

I just don't like the punch-out windows. And for some reason it always looks dirty.

I don't mind the windows but it's the mix of the 5th side's all glass facade and the 4 punch-out window sides that don't do it for me.

I have high hopes for this one, but I wonder sometimes when I hear "distinctive crown" because for me there's truly distinctive and then there's 609 Main distinctive. It's not uninteresting but it's far from showstopping.

This may have been said before, but I always thought the Chase Tower could benefit enormously from a reclad a la First Canadian Place in Toronto some years back. The design itself is great but the current facade is DINGY.

I actually really like that building, the size / height / flat roof that proclaims its height without any spire or antennae. Just an impressive building.

This should come in around the same height as 609 Main, that tower is 752 ft / 49 floors. For Block 58 to be taller than 609 Main the floor to ceiling height would have to be higher and / or feature a pretty tall crown.

I expect Block 42 to be in the ~550 - 600 ft range.

Texas Commerce Tower (never call it Chase) is beautiful and subdued design.

I actually love the plain and simple look of Chase. Sometimes simple can be a good thing. Hopefully this proposed tower will contrast Chase Tower. I like when skylines have architectural contrast.

Yeah, and I like the funky recessed windows. Walk up to the building sometime and look up that channel. It's impressive, and it really conveys the height of the building. And I like the black windows on the entrance side of the building. It's a powerful building but in an understated way.

This really will be a special project and a ground floor unlike anything existing in Houston currently. Hines is also renovating the ground floor of 717 Texas and their plan is to make it a seamless transition between 717 Texas, Block 58, and Block 42 so they all will complement one another's ground floor experience.

According to Cloud713, the bidding process is currently underway for Block 42.

With so much info leaking from multiple sources, an official announcement has to be im imminent.

Heard today that Hines is close with another major tenant (not V&E) for this building. The prospective tenant has a need for a significant amount of space in late 2020.

That’s excellent. Has the design been released?
