Noticed the steel beams on the foundation walls look different.

That's what I've learned with Chicago's big boom compared to what's going on in China and NYC. I just get excited about what is proportionally impressive and ground breaking for a city of our size and scope. Makes things more fun when it isn't a toxic competition IMO

Looking forward to seeing this tower rise from across the river in Windsor.

Former regular poster turned lurker-for-life...

Had to come out of SSP retirement to just say how excited I am to see a 900+ footer coming to my hometown.

News seems to have been sparse lately regarding the Monroe Blocks... hoping a similar height revision (in the positive) will happen. Something over 650' will definitely help to balance the Hudson's site.

I agree it would be a plus to have Monroe get taller.

As other people have said, this fits in so nicely with the rest of downtown paying homage to some of the older buildings around it. I also think this is a very nice height and don't think it over powers anything. I was also worried it might look too skinny because it is only 99' wide along Woodward, but the way it tappers off towards the top gives the allusion that it is not as skinny as it actually is.

I'm looking forward to this building in the skyline. Detroit deserves a new tallest. I've always liked Detroit's skyline; this building will punctuate it.

Maybe they should add some antennas to it too

Can't wait for the concrete to pour!

They are saying over at DetroitYes that what I thought was maybe a pile driver is actually a drill. It looks like it's drilling around what looks to be where the tower crane will go.

I'll safely assume that by December, steel will be arriving on site and work will begin on building the basement levels.

^ yeah, it looks like a caisson drill rig.

if it's for foundation caissons, then this project may be officially U/C very soon!

BTW, don't know if I've mentioned it yet, but the FAA cleared the tower crane for the 230-foot addition to the back of One Campus Martius last month. The permit doesn't expire until March of 2020.

Michelle & Chris Gerard

Perhaps the staging in the pit is for that? I'm not sure how these things work. I do know Bedrock announced they'd be seeking a foundation permit for the actual Hudson project next month, though.

They would have to close Gratiot because I'm pretty sure cranes can't hoist materials across an open street.

For One Campus Martius (so tempted to just type Compuware), they'll either build a platform over the existing roof or remove the roof and build the crane from the interior of the existing floors beneath it. Since this expansion was planned into the design, it will be a lot easier than if the expansion was unplanned.

I may be reading too far into things, but I think the site plan review application's very particular choice in coloration may be implying that we might see green terracotta on this tower. It's been a recurring design choice among SHoP's proposals recently.

^ Man, I hope so. Those designs are great, and I'm fully on board with SHoP pushing this design theme until one gets built.

I am definitely not crazy about the green. I sure hope it's not like those. It would stick out like a sore thumb. However, I'd love something like 111 West 57th. I think that would fit in better with the historic fabric.

Would be incredible if so. Detroit has such a great Art Deco skyline, one could even argue it's second only to NYC in terms of amount of Art Deco skyscrapers.

It would be fitting for it's tallest signature tower to be art deco with a 21st century twist
