Ballet Austin looks so tiny there...

While I'm not huge into ballet, I love having the arts downtown (and I wish the Children's Museum would have stayed downtown as well - especially so close to the eventually-opening main library). I would love to see that lot better utilized...perhaps by some wealthy, art-loving developer will build a tower and gift a section at the bottom to Ballet Austin so they can stay in the area.

I don't know if Ballet Austin owns their building or not, but I imagine there will be a lot of pressure, i.e. money, to sell it for development at some point. Ballet Austin will still exist somewhere, but I hope it stays Downtown. I also wish the Children's museum would have stayed Downtown. Having a Downtown Arts/Museum District should be the goal of every city.

Ballet Austin owns the building.
They get offers all the time.
When the right off happens, they will move.
That right offer means enough profit to get a location that expands their footprint in a central location....and some Backup $$.
Otherwise, why go thru the headache of moving? They are actually fine where they are.
After all the powers that be were smart enough to purchase that land when no one else was interested!

Ballet Austin should be somewhere south of the river, methinks, but highly visible, similar to ZACH theater.

Or Ballet Austin could work out a deal where the new development includes 2nd or 3rd floor space for them to continue at the same location (obv a temporary off-site locale would need to be secured in the mean time).

The UT Tower is turning 80 years old today.

I really like those shots from high above Austin, but for some reason, I still feel the need to zoom in even though I know what everything is pretty much, the taller buildings cast the longer shadows. These overhead shots also point out the lack of substantial east / west arterials near downtown, and the lack of options where to put one. UT stands out because of the terra cotta roofs and how the entire area angles to the left of the downtown grid.

Yeah, it's easy to see why they were planning an east/west expressway immediately south of Lady Bird Lake - effectively replacing Riverside Drive with a freeway.

White Lodging updated their website, and it opens with a drone video of Austin. Here's a still from the short video:

I'm so glad the JW Marriott exists because it helps me to forget that the Hyatt Place does.

Yea I noticed that too when I was looking through his pictures. My first thought was dog mess turned white. Not sure who approves public art but I kinda wonder if whoever approved this was their idea of a joke.

Or given the fact that it's next to the power substation, those might be there just to make the station seem less of an eyesore lol. "Lets put some $h!t art to make the power substation look better!"

You're right about it being stupid. It doesn't look like a worm and I see no books.

By the way, it looks like poop. Because that can't be stated enough.
